I do have a question though that someone with a JD may be able to answer. When you are doing backblade work and are turned half-way around in the seat so you can look back, how difficult is it to use your right foot to push the pedals?

Hi Toolguy, I do a lot of work in reverse, especially in the winter with the rear blower and pushing piles with the box blade. Until you raised the question, it never occurred to me that the twin touch would be uncomfortable, so I guess the answer from my perspective would be that it's not an issue at all. Mind you, I'm 6'3" so I have no problems reaching out to the reverse pedal.

As far as other comments are concerned regarding possibly depressing the wrong pedal. In hundreds of hours operating a twin touch pedal system, I can honestly say that I've never made this mistake, and (touch wood) hopefully never will!

Thanks GordNovo, I appreciate your thoughtful answer. I was beginning to think that I had started a Bash-Anything-That-Isn't-Green thread inside this post. The reason I asked in the first place was because while doing some dirt leveling a while back I noticed how my hips were turned about 45* to the right in the seat so I could see behind me without turning my neck so far. I thought at the time, and still do, that the rocker pedal on my Kubota was perfect for this operation. My right foot was just naturally postioned to operate the pedal without any though at all. I remember thinking that it would be difficult, for me at least, to extend my right leg forward to reach a twin pedal setup while twisted around in the seat. I like green tractors as much as anyone. But, at the time I bought my B3030 JD did not have anything to compare it too. Now they have the 2520 which is close. I looked them over when they were introduced and decided that I still like the B3030 better for my needs (More power, bigger tires and higher ground clearance), loose tilt steering wheel (???) and bad seat (didn't know it was bad until someone told me) notwithstanding. Thanks again.

Actually, I'm pretty glad I didn't see a kioti with the twin touch pedals when I was looking. I don't think they had one out yet with that when I was looking. The dealers I went to didn't anyway. The ck30? had the rocker style and once I saw how Deere pedals were set up, I was hooked. In regards, to turning around in seat, I think everyone probably has had a sore neck doing work. If I remember correctly, didn't the NH or Case have a swivel seat? Not sure if it swiveled all the time or if you had to pull a lever to make it swivel. That would be pretty nice.

Toolguy , I owe you an apology. I did not mean to sound like i was bashing
Kubota 3030's. I was only expressing why i went green a side from the peddles. it is a very nice tractor. and the seat was my main gripe. and now thay have fixed that. the other things i can live with. But i sure did not mean to sound like i was putting it down. had the seat problem been fixed . i might of been driveing orange. i like the hoe. it digs a foot deeper than mine.
after going back and rereading my post. i see now i could of worded it better. for that i am sorry. I guess sometimes we need to read what we type before we push the send button....

No problem, man. I guess I am just not into brand loyalty very much. I look for quality and value first, brand is down the list a ways. No one company always makes the best of everything. Before my Kubota I always owned JD. If the 2520 was available in the fall of 2005 I might own one. Who knows? At that time all they offered was the 2210 and the 3120 that was close. One was too small and the other was bigger and heavier than I needed. I mow my lawn with my 3030 and weight is a factor. It is already on the heavy side for that and the 3120 weighs almost a 1000 lbs more. The 3030 was the best for me. Enjoy your 2520. I have heard nothing bad about them either. Good luck.

It is amazing to me the design innovations and details that get lost over time. The "twin touch" system is mechanically complicated, so tractor manufacturers would naturally tend to move to the rocker system which is very simple. (I think it is laziness on the engineering part more that manufactured cost of the system). JD's engineers back then certainly had their wits about them.

I like the system, and am glad that there are enough people who need it to make it stay a design feature on at least some tractors. It is getting popular again(there was a post that the new NH's class II's are being converted to the system).

Best Regards

You wouldn't happen to have a link to that post about the New Hollands being converted to twin pedals would you? I looked but did not see it and Am interested in reading more about this.

Thanks...

My john deere dealer also sells newhollands and i was looking a while back
thay got a TC35-DA it has twin touch peddles. the peddles were orange..:)
I drove it. the peddles worked just like JD. the hydro was a little funny though....:( it was kinda jerky , not smooth. maybe it just has not been driven in a while. its been there a long time. i drove it before i bought my JD . and its still there.

I used a NH TC30 to till up my backyard and drag out a couple of trees before I bought my 2305. The NH had the rocker pedal and was just fine. Driving that actually made me speed up my own purchase! The pedals, seat, loader control location, and color (paint - not make!) swung the decision to the JD for me. My only complaint now is that I'm too short to sit back in the seat and floor the 'go' button, even with the seat all the way up! Why does everything have to be built for tall people? ;)

I do have a question though that someone with a JD may be able to answer. When you are doing backblade work and are turned half-way around in the seat so you can look back, how difficult is it to use your right foot to push the pedals? I do this a lot and the rocker pedal makes this very easy to do. You don't have to extend your right leg forward while you body is turned towards the rear. The rocker pedal is right there underneath your foot so it is very comfortable to operate. I am sure it is not a problem to operate a JD while looking back either but I would appreciate someone's honest feedback as I see this as a situation where the rocker pedal may have an advantage. Thanks.

When I'm turned around on my JD, I actually use my left foot instead of my right on the Twin Pedals. It is actually very comfortable. I mostly do this when I am snowblowing, because I have a rear snowblower on my tractor. It is just as intuative on my left foot as it is on my right foot.

Plus keep in mind, JD makes Independant brakes that you can actually use, unlike most other models....
