We had a similar problem with "smart mice" a few years back, stealing bate and either not setting off traps, or still getting away when they had. My wife did a bunch of research, and actually found someone had run a whole bunch of testing on all the popular traps at the time (maybe 8 years ago). The one that scored the top marks looks like a big black plastic clothes pin, with a bait hole dead-center in the trip paddle, such that there's no way they can get to the bait without stepping on the paddle. The jaws of the mechanism fully envelope the paddle, so there's likewise no way to avoid being within them when it fires.

We've had 100% success with them, never a single false trip, and never a missed mouse of which we're aware.
The ones you show above may be as good, and just too new to have been included in the test data she found, but I've been completely happy with the ones we've been using.
