JD2210 worth $3,000 more than BX2230?

I grew up green /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif but price ended up being the winning call and I went Orange. That was 2 years ago and I love my BX. I also thought I liked the JD foot controls better when testing them as that was what I was used to (dads 425 was that way). But now that I have had the BX for a while I must say that I prefer the treadle over the two peddle for one simple reason.

I have never went the opposite direction than intended with the treadle. To go forward I use the front of my foot to go back the heal very intuitive. On my fathers 425 over the years I have hit the wrong peddle when looking at something or backwards etc. Now this isn't somthing that happened often, but once in a blue moon it does.

Either choice I think you will love the machine. All you have to do is decide which makes you feel the best so you don't regret it down the road.

They are both quality machines.

I don't wan't to push you either way, but what surfran has to say about the hydro pedals is correct.

I drive My friends 4310 all the time. Both setups feel fine, and work well.

For the reasons That surfran brought up I like the Kubota Rocker better. But it's not going to make that much difference either way.

Thanks for the input on the treadle pedal. Now that I understand its purpose the design makes more sense.

Volfandt,

Good points on the "lowest price." For me the lower price dealer was farther away and when I asked for chain hooks and filled tires the price went up nearly $300! My local dealer told me he doesn't charge for either of those. I didn't mean to sound bias toward JD. As a matter of fact I'm leaning heavily toward the BX2230 I just like some of the JD features. Assuming I could get the price to match, I'm still not sure I'd choose the 2210 because mowing will still be my primary purpose. (I guess if I was leaning toward JD I would have posted in that forum /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

Tain't a bad thing to have a green bias /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The GC2300 felt bigger than the 2210 did to me and it has more commonality w/the BX than 2210. It too has the treadle pedal & it's 3PH is listed as a Cat 1 as opposed to a limited Cat 1. It also has an OEM BH TLB version also (GC2310).

Another reason I went w/ the BX was the floating MMM. A large part of my property has ruts, hills and other uneven terrain and I felt a floating deck would last longer and give a better cut. I rarely scrape w/ the BX MMM.

The fuel economy is just simply amazing on my BX. I've got two full mowings (is that a word) on it now, approx 2.5 acres and I've used alittle over 1/4 tank of fuel!

Since the bottom land is still pretty muddy, and between the rear diff lock & 4x4 drive I haven't gotten stuck yet.

I have several small hills I have to mow and the BX w/MMM has handled them in high gear w/o any problems. W/the FEL & BH mounted I had to go to low inorder to traverse them.

I know folks that are very happy w/their 2210's & GC2300 so having a bias/preference isn't bad as all are good machines, it's the one that you think of the most that'll probably get your $$$'s.

Good luck
Volfandt

William,

I didn't post above about the bagger, but I also have one. I can say a couple of things in the short and if you want more I will attach a link to past posts of mine.

The bagger does a great job of picking up material and does not plug very often from my experience. Now the down side, it is a pain in the neck to put on and take off. I have not tried AV8R's trick with the small board under the stands, but I have used my floor jack many times and it's still a pain.

That being said, it is better than my fathers Powerflo on the JD as it clogs up much less.

Here are some links for your enjoyment..... BX Grass Catcher

Good luck

Bager Page

Here's the link to my Bagger Page. I have the 54" deck, so there may be some minor differances on the chute. At the bottom of the page is the link to the installation process. There is a night and day differance when installing by using the 1" lift of wood underneath the legs. I love the quality and the power of the unit. I could nearly suck the sod right off the ground with it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks folks, I've made up my mind. I thought the PTO driven bagger was important but after reading the bagger posts I know it is!

I just called the dealer to place my order! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Av8r2230,

Your bagger website is great! I intend to take the bagger off after each mowing so my wife can use the tractor for gardening. I don't want her rear view blocked with the large bagger since she has 3 year-old and 4 year-old helpers /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Yes be very careful with the little ones, the bagger does obstruct your view quite a bit not to mention stick out quite far so if you forget it's back there it's kinda easy to bump stuff.

I do belive that the dealer that was selling that was tring to make quite a profit on the 2210.
I know around here, Southern Ill, there is not the much difference in pricing between the two models.
