JD3005 won't start after being upside-down for 24 hrs

Forget about the starter and work on turning it over by hand first.

Before I bought my 580k the owner tipped it over on a trailer, the wrecker righted it and I was able to turn it by hand a couple revolutions. Hit the key and it fired right up. Had I not been able to turn it I wouldn't have tried the starter

I flipped my JD3005 & it rested upside-down for about 24 hours. I got it back on its wheels this morning but it won't start. When I turn the key I get a single clunk sound. Any thoughts on what might be going on?

Everybody gave good advice. I rolled my OLD Ford 450 Backhoe with 3 cyl Perkins diesel. I thought through all the options. It was in the middle of the coldest and snowest spells we ever had in ky so I did not get in a hurry to start turning wrenches. I drained the oil and pulled the filter and let her set. It took over 2 weeks for the fluids to drain past the rings so it would turn over. You can bump the engine over and check it without the oil as long as you keep the engine kill engaged. Like I say Over 2 Weeks with the oil drained and filter off.

I'm going to speculate:

The clunk was the starter solenoid energizing...much heavier solenoid than the fuel solenoid.

The engine is hydrolocked. Hydrolocking means that the cylinders have filled with a non-compressible substance....crank case oil in this case. As the starter tries to turn the engine over, one of the cylinders will be in or going into the compression stroke.

The valves are closed, the piston attempts to proceed to full compression at the designed point. It can't get there because the non compressible fluid is preventing it; amps go to max available in an attempt to "roll it over". Result is bent rod if carried to the extreme.

Sounds to me like others have provided you with the correct course of action.
