I have a new JD compact tractor with a root grapple and a bucket for use with my loader. I have some trouble disconnecting one of the 3rd Function hydraulic couplings (used with the grapple). I eventually got it after learning how to relieve the pressure in the line.

Now, one coupling (green) is stuck on (can't remove) -- and the orange will not connect properly. Collar won't slide back on the green line. I can slide the orange line collar back, but can't insert the connection far enough to lock-in.

I've tried muscling this several times with no luck. The two couplers are so close together, they are hard to access .

You might try some new QD's that the sleeve slides both ways.

Some people have made tools to assist in connecting couplers.

First off, Welcome!
Sounds like there is pressure in those lines. You may try wiggling the levers without the tractor running to free up the pressure. A trick I do sometimes is stick a screw driver in there and push in the center. Be careful doing this, as you may end up wearing it or just making a mess. It depends on how much pressure is in there. Wear gloves when doing this.

Gengine, This morning I could easily slide the collar back and undo the coupling - green. You were most certainly correct about there being line pressure. I still can not attach the orange line. The male end (connected to the Grapple) will not go all of the way into the female connector (connected to the tractor). I tried your trick with the screw driver without success. With both now being disconnected -- at least I can resume tractoring with my bucket attached!

Use wrenches to loosen one or both couplers to relieve the pressure. Then tighten and connect.

Look in the female couple and see if some of the rubber seal is protruding into the barrel. If so , replace the seal or obtain a new QD to match.
