I know this is not what the topic asked, but the JD 5x03 is probably a closer comparison to the 7040.

I looked over the 5603 at an ag show, just isnt the tractor for me. Nothing wrong with but just not for me. If I were interested I would go 5625 in that series.

After reading/skimming all of the posts before - I saw it mentioned comparisons about the different types of PTOs but never really the different types of tranny one may be comparing...We had 2 M9000s with the "dry" clutch (albeit a shuttle) and both of them went out within 500-600 hours of use...also know of at least 4 other tractors that have had this problem ---ask your kubota dealer about any clutch problem in their M series tractors as this was before they came out with the hydraulic shuttle...i would imagine any dry clutch from them could possibly have the same problem...ours were luckily replaced with a "heavy duty clutch" that was supposed to last 1000hrs

JD does have a dry clutch also - yet you never really hear complaints about it ( i haven't - yet who am I)---the power reverser is nice...so if you are comparing a reverser to a dry kubota...grapes to raisins
just a thought
me personally - never been a big fan of adding and adding and adding weight to a tractor - if they wanted it heavier they would have built it heavier...

Well, the 7040 and the 5425 are like 50lbs apart in weight. So "adding and adding and adding weight to a tractor" isn't necessary, they ARE virtually the same weight! :)

Guys, I think what it boils down to is this: Are you willing to pay $8,000 for some extra features? IMO, the basic tractors are probably 98% identical!

annnd what about those infamous clutches...anyone ask around about them...i'd love to hear what a dealer has to say these days....

concerning the...and more weight...I of course was speaking in terms of all tractors...not just the botas like most people probably thought...if they thought that...why did they?

thought----opinion---pertaining to utility size tractors
-70-80% of kubota owners probably weight their tractors in the back end in some form or fashion
- 20-30% of jd owners .....

why...botas for years have always been lighter than (name your brand here) although they are getting heavier...the perception is still that they are not as "heavy" as others

since we know that all on the internet is true---taken from the JD and the bota website
basic 2wd tractor
5425 - 5885 lbs
m7040 - 4475 lbs

yes more than 50 lbs - but then again we will only know if we weigh them at the weigh station....

8 grand....i say go get an aqha card and start up a horse business...save 20+ %...either that or go buy a good used massey..those things are heavy:cool:

There is more trash and misinformation in this thread than any I have read in a long time. If someone is really considering these machines the posts here sure are not going to help. We should be pulling spec sheets out and looking at features rather than having each person pick at each other as has been going on for the last several posts.

my opinion is this. buy either tractor, i'm pretty positive you'd be happy with the Kubota OR the JD. what i have researched and learned is that Kubota's new series of utility tractors have been GREATLY improved over past models. not to say their past models were crap, but one has to admit they've come a long ways in recent years trying to break into the ag world. theyve made improvments. it just boils down to a few wants on a tractor vs needs, what color paint you want, which dealer you can do business with the best.

Got one quote back yesterday on JD5425. Not bad, more than I wanted to hear but not bad. I havent gotten the kubota yet. I would estimate I could get the 9540 for same or less money. Go figure, there not painted green for nothing, hence money is green??? Not bashing just kinda laughing about the entire thread.

I like the gadget features of the JD. The quote I got would be with everything i wanted except the ehitch. Really dont know how I would like it but kinda wanted it. I like the NH i have now with a flip of the switch i can raise or lower implement without moving any setting. It will go back to what it was set at before. NH standard not any option on cab models. Just hate to go back blue, entire reason for moving anyway.

I asked one question on here earlier about the physical size of the tractors. Does anyone know about size of the 5x25 vs. 7040/8540/9540? The Tn75 is tick shorter everywhere doing the reading I have done. Heavier but smaller. It rides that way to, you bounce a little more on it compared to the TL90. That is probably what I should have bought in the first place.

Another question: how do the hydraulics of each machine compare? The TN in my opinion is kinda slow. My machine is fully hyd so everything is run off of the same pump. Tranny, loader, pwr steer, etc. If I buy another tractor it would be the same with hyd shuttle. How is that going to effect the loader? From specs JD have more flow but maybe I am misinformed?

ahhh trash---it needs to be taken out every now and then....

with you wanting to go with with the hyd shuttle that answers your question concerning the clutch that was posed - surprised that Messick didnt address it....
anyway....these are all my opinions (well of course) I will say that you probably would not have been happy with the TL90 (we owned one, some JD6300s 6400s, the m9000, and a mx110, and a few smaller ones) the TL was the newest and seemed to have the worst turning ratio (real world experience - minus the mx) and the loader was "away" from the tractor (out in front) which at times made it a little off balance (new holland loader) i think we did have to load the tires to correct the problem...yet i think this is a "design" of the NH tractors across all of their lines (even their compact tractors look like the loaders rest on the ground too far in front - maybe it is not a problem)

and concerning picking at one another - apparently a nerve was struck about botas - i was not picking at the above poster - in my mind i felt he posted incorrect information .... concerning the weight....(which i figured that the buyer would have found out anyway)...and the weight figures were pulled from the specs sheets from the respective sites...and then opinions expressed thereafter...interesting it was felt trash was being thrown....

simple opinion again - buyer will definitely be happy with either tractor - but (opinion again) the "perception" (may be reality) is that botas are lighter than (name your brand here) and will possibly need to be weighted for on the job experiences...so it goes back to what one will be doing a tractor - and if memory serves me correctly he has less than 80 acres so he will be fine with either (seat time will not be 10 hrs every day)

lastly on the hydaulic question - not sure on the 5425 but the m series should have excellent flow - ahha another opinion how about them bota loaders these days - for some reason a lot of peeps go with the bushhog (or name your brand) maybe another question to ask...
honestly good luck and I will leave ya'll alone -

and before i get a lot of negative posts after this - my policy in buying anything - is to ask the seller (dealer/individual) what they don't like most about the product...they will usually say a few things...or just ask for one thing and they will say something (amazing what you can find out face to face)

The deere gets all of the gadget awards. I like gadgets. The Ehitch works like a charm, so does the rear fender mount control for the 3pt, I also like a 3rd function remote with switch on the loader control and I havent seen that offered by kubota but maybe the make it.

Kubota has offered the third function valve on most of their tractors for sometime. They also have offered fender mount loader controls for a number of years although some dealers don't push them to much because of the issues of the cables that all makes of tractors have with them. For the most part with all the fancy gadgetry we see, that is often where the problems lie with short circuits and options not operating correctly.
For those that like to take things apart, no we have had no issues or repairs on the third function valve on Kubota tractors.
