Re: JD5105 series owners-What attachments work best with this tractor, root rake, grapple,

According to Deere's site, the 5105 supports a max of 2 mid SCVs and 2 Rear SCVs. I'm not sure what they plan on doing with the single one on your invoice. Initially I though it may be the third for your mids until I looked it up.

Do you already have a single rear SCV?

I'm kinda surprised that the JD only supports two rear SCVs. Even so, 1050 could, for lots less money, control his top/tilt, grapple and BH by using a combination of two rear SCVs and a loader mounted diverter valve (eg WR Long). I would also be surprised if JD did not offer some sort of diverter valve set up as they sell a 4n1 bucket for their loaders and must offer some sort of control for that.

If the JD comes with one set of rear remotes (SCVs) then really all 1050 needs to do is add one more ($500 from his price list) and then a diverter valve (est $1000 installed) That is a savings of $2500. Not bad. you could get yourself a nice grapple and have it custom painted green and yellow for that price.:)

Re: JD5105 series owners-What attachments work best with this tractor, root rake, grapple,

This tractor only has the mid mount svc, 2, for the loader , and both used for it. NO other hyd on the tractor. Tractor is pretty much new yet, less than 120hr. No did not buy from a dealership, rather an individual who needed to sell it. Pretty much a plan jane tractor, that now needs the options added to work like one would want a tractor to operate. This is all good info. Please keep it comming , and if this dealership sold me things i do not need, well, even though parts are paid for, i have not recieved them yet, on order and est is two weeks.

As far as I know they don't. What you get (as I have it) is a 3rd mid-SCV that is EH and has a flow control. It's not available on all models, though (including the 5105)...I do agree with everything else you posted...

For starters I don't see any reason at all to add a very expensive power beyond setup. You can do just fine frankly with two rear remotes. Use them for your top and tilt and then just disconnect the fittings (15 seconds) and use one of them for the backhoe when you need to. As indicated above, there is literally never a time you would use top/tilt at the same time as a backhoe so you don't need a dedicated power beyond to run the backhoe. No difference at all to the backhoe function whether you use remotes or power beyond.

For the grapple/loader hydraulics I would suggest adding a diverter valve from WRLong. They can sell you the whole kit for about $550 or so and you can install it yourself in an afternoon. Excellent tech support from Nelson Long via phone so don't hesitate if you can turn a wrench at all. If you have a FEL diverter valve (which by the way would tap into the curl/dump lines on your mid SCV) then you don't need a third rear remote to run a grapple.

The only other option you might explore is whether to upgrade from the simple diverter valve (when you push the button the FEL dump/curl control switches to grapple open/close) to an electrohydraulic valve (you have a separate switch that controls the grapple and your dump/curl functions normally when operatiing the grapple). The difference in price as I recall is less than but close to $500. It is a convenience and nice to be sure but most people are happy enough with the basic diverter valve.

I think you could have a fully functional set up to address all the tasks you outlined in your initial post with just the two rear remotes and the diverter and could have that for less than $2000 installed. Send back the pricy and unnecessary power beyond valve. Personally I would be pissed at any dealer who had sold me such a bill of goods and would take my business elsewhere so you might want to start from scratch.

He needs the power beyond, because on another thread he is installing a BH...

You can easily run a BH from rear remotes. He has two rear remotes to run his top and tilt but you don't ever need top and tilt at the same time as a BH so why not save $2000 and just change the quick connects. Takes 30 seconds.

Because JD BHs are plumbed to use PB...

So then he would just need invest $100 to change the hoses and fittings so he could hook up to the rear remotes...right? I don't have any specific knowledge of JD BHs but how could they possibly be plumbed so they only work from a PB? You presumably need a certain hydraulic flow in and then out, what is brand specific about that?

I've never looked closely at a JD BH but on their website it doesn't seem to require a PB to order a BH. If it really does then JDs are remarkably different than other tractors. Frankly if it costs $2000 extra to get the tractor ready to run a BH then people should be taking that into consideration when they buy green. I did not need to add anything except a BH to mine and I am pretty sure that is the same situation for the other orange brand L and M series. I know that with even small Kioti's and Kubota's you just need to add one set of rear remotes for $400 or so to run a BH.

Re: JD5105 series owners-What attachments work best with this tractor, root rake, grapple,

I have that same tractor. I never got a loader or backhoe. instead, I spent around 10,000 on a little bulldozer to get rid of stumps. that tractor will take a real beating if you push it too hard. For what you are doing, you may want to fabricate a belly plate.

before i put on belly armor I went through a few hundred dollars in gas tank sending unit damage....
