So then he would just need invest $100 to change the hoses and fittings so he could hook up to the rear remotes...right? I don't have any specific knowledge of JD BHs but how could they possibly be plumbed so they only work from a PB? You presumably need a certain hydraulic flow in and then out, what is brand specific about that?

I've never looked closely at a JD BH but on their website it doesn't seem to require a PB to order a BH. If it really does then JDs are remarkably different than other tractors. Frankly if it costs $2000 extra to get the tractor ready to run a BH then people should be taking that into consideration when they buy green. I did not need to add anything except a BH to mine and I am pretty sure that is the same situation for the other orange brand L and M series. I know that with even small Kioti's and Kubota's you just need to add one set of rear remotes for $400 or so to run a BH.

If you had gone thru the build phase on the JD site when you added the BH you would have seen under the Miscellaneous Section of the BH...

Point taken. However, he has been quoted something close to $2000 for a power beyond retrofit. And, it still doesn't address the point that you wouldn't need a power beyond if you already had rear remotes. Maybe there is something unique about JDs but with most tractors you can use EITHER the power beyond or rear remotes to run a BH. The PB in many cases is a bit cheaper so people do use them instead of remotes if they have no other reason to have remotes. Why does he need both PB and remotes? Also, why does JD charge him almost $2K for PB when the website lists it at about $250?

I haven't got a clue about his pricing, unless when they plumb it at the factory it is somehow a whole lot cheaper...:D

Most PB installations that I'm familiar with have no control levers associated with it...it is just providing a hydraulic source for an implement that has its own set of controllers...such as a BH

The remotes have controllers up by the seat for running implements off the back...such as the height adjustment on haybines and balers

We agree on these points but you can (I did) run a BH from rear remotes just as easily as with PB. You simply put the rear remote control "on" and pass the control effectively to the BH.

Again, my main point is that if you already have rear remotes, there is no reason to spend almost $2K to add an over priced PB in order to be able to power a BH.

Went through the same stuff with jd about putting a grapple on a 990. They ended up telling me it could not be done. Bought a L3240 and called wr long. The jd dealers (around me) have no clue what the are doing, or how to use what they sell. I agree with island, wr long would be the cheapest and most painless way to go.

Re: JD5105 series owners-What attachments work best with this tractor, root rake, grapple,

-----QUESTION____I am in the middle of mounting this subframe. Have laid out a outline to put a bracket on each side and add bolts to the loader frame. And with the brackets at an angle i will be able to lay in a piece of flat iron to create a guard protecting the hyd lines , electrical ect that is getting a beating now. This will allow me to get the subframe closer to the tractor. And not have that huge mount hanging there to catch on everything when i remove the hoe. My question is . by doing this I will not comprimise the loader frame ??? will I? Will it be taking the load properly? (2100 series is mounted this way, with the same sub frame). Plus the current bracket which is for the 5000series, makes comes down way to far, causing the subframe to set at an angle, about 5 in lower in the front than what it would be in the back. Currently I am within one inch, front-to-back. in being parallel with the tractor frame.

Re: JD5105 series owners-What attachments work best with this tractor, root rake, grapple,

Thanks for all the input thus far. I am installing all the Hyd upgrades as stated. I will post pics if anyone is interested in the final outcome. I currently have a Hyd question, JD made error on drawings, posted a thread in the Hyd section. Moving Forward......
