Hey Everyone, need some advice, Installing a new injection pump on my JD750 tractor, Yanmar 3-cylinder engine, haven't removed the old one yet. Question, it comes with shims
How do I properly shim this new pump? Any other suggestions will be appreciated
Thank you
Greg

Start by measuring the old ones and putting the same amount back in..
Most inj pumps don’t come w shims and the old ones are reused..
Good luck

Hey Greg,

When installing a new injection pump on your JD750 with the Yanmar 3-cylinder engine, shimming is about getting the right clearance for proper timing. The shims adjust the pump's position so everything lines up right.

Here’s a quick rundown:

  1. Keep Track of the Old Shims: Note the number and thickness when removing the old pump. This gives you a good starting point.
  2. Install the New Pump with the Same Shims: Use the same shims if possible. Tighten it down snug but don’t fully torque yet.
  3. Check the Timing Marks: Rotate the engine to the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley and align it with the injection pump mark. If they don’t line up, add or remove shims. Adding shims retards timing; removing them advances it.
  4. Fine-Tune and Test: Adjust the shims one at a time, then tighten everything up to spec. Fire it up and make sure it runs right.
A couple of extra tips: Bleed the fuel lines to remove any air and double-check the timing before you start it up.

I’ve been there—these things can be tricky, but take your time, and you’ll get it right. Hope that helps! Let us know how it goes!

Welcome and thanks for the update. I'm a fellow 3 cylinder Yanmar engine owner, I have a YM2310.
