Does your Viking DW stink too?

Brett

Do you put the plates in the dish washer with food on them? There is a filter on our dishwasher to catch food particles, and if the filter catches food, the dish washer will stink after awhile. We don't generally put plates with food large enough to get caught in the filter so it is not usually a problem.

WHY there is a filter on the drain is a good question to which I have no answer.

Its because it recycles the water for the wash and rinse cycles (it fills with water, then pumps that water through the spray arms), the filter is to catch the crud so it doesn't plug the pump or the spray arms.

Added benefit is that you don't get food particles in your septic tank. We rinse all dishes before they go in the dishwasher. The only food that goes into our septic tank is "pre processed". A septic tank pumper once told me to never use a garbage disposal to process food scraps and to rinse your dishes that go into the dishwasher.

Wait... so when you rinse them, does that mean with a hose in the front yard? Else, where does the rinse water go?

I figure that any small food particles from the dishwasher, or garbage disposal, or just rinsing dishes in the sink, are only slightly less "digested" than what comes out of my heiney. They can and will finish digesting in the septic tank. And they will digest at least as well as the cellulose in the TP. C'mon, the pumper has to have SOMETHING to pump every couple of years!

Myself, I don't see the point in putting food particles via a garbage disposal into a septic tank. I'd rather compost. I have a screen on the kitchen drain that catches scraps and gets cleaned daily.

That is kinda obvious.:laughing::laughing: I don't remember our Maytag dishwashers having as fine of a filter, if they had one at all, compared to the Bosch. Like I said, we scrape off whatever food is on the plates before going into the dishwasher, well to be honest, if the wifey is doing it ,she rinses the plates before they go into the dishwaster,:confused3:, so we do not have smell issues in the machine. I think we did once or twice after we first got the Bosch were some bigger food particles got caught in the filter.

I don't think the Bosch has a macerator like most of the other brands. That's why we bought a KitchenAid 10 years ago – the box required cleaning the screen constantly according to literature

Well here is an interesting follow up-and a sad commentary on Jenn-Air and my shattered oven door. After telling me .."part no longer available", we get a solicitation from Jenn-Air the other day offering....." choose a Jenn- air Service Plan and relax knowing your covered".......and all for a mere $236.95 for one year or $355.97 for two years!

By the way- $190 piece of tempered glass that a local glass company made for me is working well.

Happens more than you think... parts are held back for service plan use or service plan sold and if the company cannot deliver your money is refunded... guess it is all figured out based on the odds.
