I have a little experience with a couple "quick change" oil changers. They're the biggest racket in the car world with the possible exception of the "buy here, pay here" car dealers. I only use local mechanics I know.

Well, I love these types of reports when they catch them on video. The district manager was the best lying about who he was and what car was his I wonder when the Attorney General is going to step in now. I know back when Spitzer was the AG for New York he would have loved this case.

But like anything, you need to go to a place you can trust. Jiffy Lube is going to take a huge hit because of this now as will a lot of other chain companies like them. I normally do all my own work but if it is something I can't do or don't want to do I have three garages I know and trust for cars and trucks. They will only do what needs to be done and if they find something else that needs attention they call me ahead of time.

I was sitting in the one garage the other day for an inspection and they found the brakes on the F-250 needed to be replaced. Well I wasn't going to be able to do them in my current condition so I gave them the go ahead. In the time it took them to swap out the front brakes they pulled two other cars into the shop, lifted them up, inspected the problems, and sent them out the door without charging them. THe one was after they told the guy how much it would be to repair the damage and the other was a lady with a Saturn whose sub frame had rusted away. He refused to change the tie rod ends (which were already delivered) till she take the car to a welding shop and see about having the frame fixed. He didn't want her to spend any more money on the car then she had to if the car wasn't worth saving. So she left without having to pay him a dime.

I expect there will be some lawsuits filed against Jiffy Lube and the individual stores now from others who felt they were charged for something they didn't receive.

What do you have against them car dealers who make $10k on a $2k car

On one hand you have to figure they charge such high interest so they get their money while the car is still running as once it dies the people quit paying. They really make out good though if the people pay the entire loan. I just don't know why people keep going to places like that and Rent to Owns. Why throw money away to high interest charges

I think most if not all JiffyLubes are franchises. I use a particular one in Augusta GA for my company vehicle that does a decent job. Several I've tried over the years in Columbia SC are bad. Different franchise owners. Note- I would NOT take my personally owned vehicles to ANY of them and I stand there and watch them do the company vehicle.
