Did you know this story is over a year old, probably more?

Thanks for the link, though, it reminds me to be suspicious and skeptical.:D

If you can't do it yourself find a trusted garage through recomendations.

I even had a falsifyed service report at a 5 star Dodge dealer with my Wifes new car, where we bought it.

Too bad there aren't videos posted of the hundreds, probably thousands, of auto repair places, including jiffy lube franchises that do good work. :(

Thing is, If you have 1 bad apple in the bag & you don't get it out . That 1 bad apple , will spoil the rest of the good apples

Nobody cares about all those perfect take-offs and landings at an airport...one crash though, everyone wants to see...

this thread reminds me of last year when my wife's lemon of a Dodge truck ('97 1500 4x4) went to a chain shop (Midas or Monroe, cant remember which) to have her front axle U-joints replaced (which they did, but did not mention that her front pads (3" from the U-joint) were worn out due to a seized slider in the caliper, nor did they replace the U-joints on the front drive shaft which I could wobble 1/4" by hand)
when they finished they put the tires back on with a airgun tight enough that I couldn't get them off with our airgun or with a 1/2" breaker bar and a 3' cheaterbar a month later when she was complaining of a metal on metal sound when braking (I looked and the inner pad on both sides was worn down to the rivets and making the disc look like an LP)... I took the truck into their shop and asked them to loosen the bolts, they did and the guy who did told me (and I kid you not) that the reason I couldent get the nuts off was that they were 19mm nuts and I was using a 3/4" socket. my inner reaction was  they let you touch a customers vehicle when you don't even know common inch-mm conversions???

perhaps I am weird but I have known since I was 8 and helping dad in the shop, he taught me that 4.5mm ~1/4", 13mm ~1/2", 14mm ~9/16" and 19mm ~3/4" etc... scary how little people in some shops know.

What do you have against them car dealers who make $10k on a $2k car:rolleyes:

On one hand you have to figure they charge such high interest so they get their money while the car is still running as once it dies the people quit paying. They really make out good though if the people pay the entire loan. I just don't know why people keep going to places like that and Rent to Owns. Why throw money away to high interest charges:confused:
Why go there? Alot of folks have a credit rating that will severly limit their financing options. Hence the predatory vultures, "buy here pay here, payday loans and the furniture and big screen rental places. Like my dad said, "pay your bills and gambling debts in a timely manner". This is how most people will judge you and rightly so. Nobobody likes a deadbeat.

I know some people get themselves in trouble with their credit but do these people really need a 60" TV or a monster stereo?

YOu have no idea how many low income homes I go to on jobsites where the people have no furniture, the beds are just matteresses that lay on the floor and the fridge is from the 1940's yet they have a huge TV and Stereo with speakers that go from the floor to the ceiling. Yet their car sits on cinder blocks as it died shortly after leaving the buy here pay here place:rolleyes: .

I was always raised to have my priorities straight. A small TV with comfy furniture is better then a big screen TV where you have to sit on the floor (yes, people do live this way). Around here the Rent to Own places thrive while the people struggle but it is their money. I just don't like them putting their money into their TV's and Stereos while their kids have nothing.

I don't think this an uncommon practice. Bought my daughter a new style Malibu with 30k on the odometer. It has a 2.2 four cylinder with a cartridge style oil filter. These filters are pricy and hidden inside a black container. I changed the fluids a couple times and she had it done where she works. I pencil marked the cover and put a dab of fresh grease on the opposite side of the raised portion of the filter cover just in case they failed to remove the filter for the oil change. Guess what ? Three changes later my marks are still there. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it doesn't have to be changed. This was in a big name service center. Sometimes the employees they hire aren't the most motivated creatures either. She is not going back. She now goes to a mom and pop operation. First thing the owner said is " bet they didn't change the filter ". So to some it was common knowledge.

Another instance, a guy I know took his new Ford F-150 to an oil change site while on vacation. Sign said $29.95 oil changes. His bill was $69.95. They said trucks are always higher.

That is one of the reasons I have little trust for anyone I don't know to work on my vehicles. it will usually end up in bad feelings.
