The theme today was "hawaiian". It was a beautiful sunny day.
This calls for a palm tree and drums in the background.

Pick your ambience.....Don HO

Aloha. :D

I promised some more pictures of my garden, so I'll post them. Me and my garden are needing all the sympathy we can get.

I was in the garden this morning and remembered I needed to take some pictures but didn't have my camera. I just got a new cellphone with a camera, so I decided to use it. I figured any blurriness from the camera could only improve the way things look.

Our tomatoes have been taking a beating from the heat in August. They were on the way down when we decided to prune them up. Now, they are actually coming back, especially the Porters. We'll probably have tomatoes for several more months, just not as many. The vines look pretty bad, but I can't bring myself to cut them down yet.

I'm really looking forward to digging some sweet potatoes. I should have done a better job of picking a suitable variety for our area, but we'll just have to take what we get. I'm sure they are gonna look pretty ugly based on the few I've dug up so far.

We've done pretty good at growing gourds. I guess I'll have to figure a way to paint them and make bird nests to hang in our trees. I can make a few mistakes and still have plenty of gourds left.

Our squash has taken a beating from squash bugs and stink bugs. It's starting to wilt and fade fast. Honestly, we have probably harvested 700 lb out of this little patch, so we have to call it a success. Lots of folks have had our squash to eat this year.

I took a picture of some tomatoes, peppers, and okra we had picked. It's a pretty sad picture compared to Don's Hawaiian dee-light, but it shows we are still getting fresh food from our tired garden.:)

Looks good to me, Jim. And sweet potatoes that look ugly???? I thought all sweet potatoes looked ugly, but as long as they taste good, who cares what they look like?:)

Jim, Your garden is two months ahead of us here in Michigan. Two months from now our gardens could be covered in s-n-o-w.

Spritz a little water on your fresh picked veggies and take them outside in the sun, for the photo op. Your veggie pictures will look just like mine! ;)

After using every grass cutter in my arsenal I finally was able to make it to the sweet potatoes. I dug one up tonight and it was a good 8 incher!

This is the first sweet potato I have ever grown. When I sliced it up a white liquid started beading out like little pin droplets on the cut surface. it was sticky and after a while the liquid turned brown. Is this normal?

Yep! I think I've seen that many times where the ends of the sweet potatoes get broken off. They are full of sugar, especially with the extra rain we have had. If you cured them for awhile, you would not see so much sweet sap running out.

I bet they taste great when you bake them. My dad used to take tinfoil and put it over the small ends of the sweet potatoes when he cooked them in the microwave. You should have seen the sparks flying. I don't know how he kept from blowing up that old microwave. He told me all his friends did that and it didn't hurt the microwave. I never did it, but I finally sold his microwave for $5 at a yard sale two years after he passed away. The darn thing was still working. It was one of the old ones that weighed a "ton" and had only a dial timer.:D

I am going to use my rock rake today to dig my sweet potatoes. I'll let you know how they turn out and post some pictures.
