TSMART, I don't know what you are using to wack it with ????/ but, a proper size roll pin for the hole is going into must be tight/hard starting it and driving it on up.

Put a little taper to the pin and get rid of the bevel, you will have to wack it with something that is not soft.... it has to be held straight with the hole and a solid even blow given to it.

If you use an 3 pound hammer to want have to swing as hard .... maybe someone hold the pin with needle nose pliers while you hit it. Sometimes you will have to use a punch little bigger than the pin because you can't hit the pin in the center of the hammer head.

If you use something other than a roll pin and it damages the hole ....... then it may be possible that a new roll pin want stay tight.??

They can be a bugger to start .... and if you start it and dont hit it staight and even ,,, it will break.

Well, I gave it my best shot. Couldnt get the roll pin in. So after like 3 hours, I used a big cotter pin, it fit snugly, then I adjusted the stop positions for "forward" and "reverse"....Now the gears do not grind, they go right in. I will have the dealer replace the roll pin next time I get there.

Just this little job taught me so much about the tractor. Because I had to remove the foot-throttle linkage and other stuff, you get to know how it is rigged. I am becoming more comfortable that I will be able to fix the smaller stuff.

I checked the oil, with 61 hours on the tractor I was expecting really dirty stuff, but it was almost clear, and had not used any oil at all. Still right up to level. Should that oil be dirty before I change it? I mean it looks like new stuff.

Also when I was under the tractor I got to tighten up a lot of stuff, didnt take long, gave me satisfaction!!

The tractor's working just fine and I am one happy dude. Our long crushed lime gravel drive looks like new now! Told my wife "now there's a tractor payment.." I scarfied it and box bladed it and dragged it with a pallet and the job went PERFECTLY!!! it was 80 degrees(central florida) today!! Wife loved it! Happy!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
