Has anyone turned there 224 motor up any? I understand that there is absolutely no difference in the jm224 and the jm284 motor. I am no mechanic but how hard can it be to turn up . Robby

The 22hp 3 cyl is usually the Y380 engine and the 25/28hp is usually a Y385 engine. The difference being 5mm of bore. I don't know how substantial that is, but for most tractor work, it is probably insignificant. Do you run or use am implement at max rpm today? If so, what is your max rpm?

You may have confused model numbers. There are those that say there's no difference between the 254 and 284 - but I haven't heard that said about the 224.

First off, is your 224 a two cylinder or three? If three, which one - the Y380 or the Y385? Because three cylinder JM284s and clones sold in the USA have the (YangDong) Y385.

I normally run 2000 rpm when using the pto(tiller mower ).I would like to use a 5ft tandem disk. I am not sure that the 22 hp will be enough. That is why I asked about turning it up. I think that I have a y380 but I will check this afternoon. I do know that it is three cylinder. Robby

I have a yangdond y380t motor 3 cylinder. I am not sure what the (t) stands for. Robby

The "t" represents the engine variant, probably relative to the governed output. It's not even the same engine as is in the 284, so I guess you heard wrong

Hey Bugsy,

Why not skip the turbo,, go for the gold and put on a Supercharger. I bet it'll have 22hp then. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Have a nice day,

I have only seen the Y380 labeled as a 20 and 22 hp engine. Doesn't mean you can't get more out of it. What is your governer set to now? ie what is the highest rpm you can get? As far as pulling disks, I doubt getting any more rpms/hp is going to help. Power to the ground will probably be the issue.
