Can anyone comment on the performance of Jinma plows? I'm considering one to pull behind a Kubota 3130HST. Would 3 or 4 pt be best?

I am guessing that you are speaking about mold board plows. A four bottom would sure be to much. A three bottom would also be to much, unless you had loose or sandy soils. (some kind of soil that doesn't pack really hard.)

You're not the first person to tell me that with the hp of the 3130, a 2pt plow is about as much as I could manage. My soil is pretty heavy and there are quite a few rocks. I'll look elsewhere other than at Jinma. They don't make a 2 pt.

They are more than likely right. A two bottom would work the best. I would also suggest that you get an old used plow. The new plows that are sold by TSC and most others are not very good plows. The old Masseys, JDs and Fergusons were made to work and do a much better job.

As per Jerry:

Maximum 2 bottom plow. Also consider that the individual plow share comes in many different sizes. Probably a 14 in. would be about right for you. Also note that a plow used for breaking sod has a longer gentler sloped moleboard to turn the sod over. The shorter sharper angled moleboards will not do this and make for some rough riding when you are disking it down.

For myself I'd look for a draw bar pull type but the three point hitch type will allow for easier access to tight places.

Also make sure the plow is adjustable or can be set up so the right tractor wheels can stay in the furrow.

There may be the odd old plough out in the bushes by some of the old farm sites.

A mid 30's hp tractor is just able to handle a 3 bottom plow.. and that's with the benefit of draft control. 2 bottms are best unless you really are 35 hp or so.. especially with only position control.

You can always drop a bottom on the 3 bottom.

As others said... I've seen TSC 2 bottom plows.. they look heavy duty.. but once you use them.. they do get beat up ..

I ended up getting a 50+ year old dearborn 10-1 2 bottom plow.. great oldie.. sturdy and works like a dream. I'd guess that a jinma plow is 'less' sturdy than a TSC plow.. so you see where this is going. If you had loose sand for soil.. I guess you would be ok.

I agree, look for a used MF or other older used plow. I pick up this old MF plow at an auction last spring for a song and it works great with my L3130 HST. I have seen them at auctions for as little as $30.00. I paid $150 for mine. I have very rocky soil here and as long as the soil is not too dry I have no problem pulling it. After asking here how to set it up I had it working in less than an hour.

2 would be best and If you get a older plow, be sure to get this type setup pictured below, otherwise you will not be able to get repair parts. You should have a replacable point(share) a moldboard with a wearshin in front and a landslide.--Ken Sweet

I just skimmed over the Jimna site, and a little info on their plows. If I read correctly, their 4-bottom plow had a 31.5 inch cutting width. That would be a little less than 8" per bottom. Hardly compares to a 12", 14", or 16" bottom we're used to with most "American made" plows. From the grainy picture I saw, they resemble "Scotch bottoms" that were popular YEARS ago for tuning sod. (Very narrow cut, easy pulling in sod) If so, their 4-bottom plow should pull something like a 2-bottom X 16" plow. Still hard to compare at that.

Ok, Ok, if I have to I'll post another pic of my plow.

IMHO, you have the best plow ever made. That Ford 101 series pulls easy, turns the ground completely and easy to maintain over the long haul. Safety trip built into the shank is also a asset--Ken Sweet
