No, I definitely need a new bracket -- the old bracket that is verticle from the top pump bolt does is no where near where it should be. If I move it lateral to the side bolt, it would work if it was three inches longer. This is all without the belt even installed. I will poke around with it again tomorrow evening.

I remember there being very little room to work with. I think i'm going to make my own bracket extension with 3/8" steel.

All is good. I ended up going to Home Depot and buying a 4ft section of 3/4" wide by 3/16" steel and extending the bracket overall about 3". I installed it temporarily and then measured for a support piece that goes almost horizontal to the top hydro pump bolt (original mounting bolt). I then welded that to the bracket. Dipped it in some Rust-o-leum black and installed it. Works great and appears very stable. I will take a photo and upload it tomomorrow.

I check it with a multimeter and it is putting out 14.7vdc -- outstanding

As promised, here is the photo of my modified bracket. Sorry it took so long, i've been traveling almost nonstop since I did the repair.

I extended the original bracket. Then I welded on a support piece that bolted to the original hole. I believe this was 3/16" steel. It is very sturdy and doesn't vibrate like its about to come apart.

I replaced the belt as it was about 10 years old and almost completely ripped apart. It was difficult finding a direct replacement to the original "Elephant Ball 13V965" belt. I tried to follow the recommended cross-match belts listed on a different forum and it was way off. An exact match was $8 from Advance Auto Parts "Drive Rite 40517". It also shows part number "13A1030" under "40517".

Nice job!:thumbsup: Except the the open face fan on the alternator will suck in everything that the engine cooling fan is throwing at it. Be sure to blow it out along with your radiator whenever you do serious mowing. Remember, you replaced a TEFC alternator that was designed for harsh environments, the 10Si's arent.

yeah it does stick out a little more too. Lifetime warranty on the alternator which means that I'll probably go through a couple of these every summer With Advance Auto Pats' perpetual 40 percent off coupon codes, this baby only set me back about $27

I think it is just you -- bolt goes in from the other side and you are looking at the threaded hole
Nice work Tigers -- I've been trying to follow the final configuration of your wiring and am not sure how it ended. I solved the belt issue by going to a link belt -- not much more expensive and easier to put on.

negative; if you're referring to the bolt hold below the mounting bolt, the case bolt is facing the the rear just like the mounting bolt.
