Just to clarify on my prior post. My apprehension was to do with the slopes I was on, and not specificly about the brakes. While it has been many years since I have been on a Ford 8n or 9n, my impression is that the Jinma brakes are better. FWIW.

If I read your post correctly ( if ).. then you were concerned about the brakes holding you still on a slope... My worn 8n brakes will still lock the wheel down enough that the tire will slide down the slope rather than the wheel turning... right brake anyway.. !

My concern was generated by the slopes I was on, and was concerned mainly with rollover. Watching for the smallest hole that a wheel might drop down into, that would really make things exciting, gets very tiresome, very quickly. The hour or two of work I did for the neighbor, felt like double that amount of time.

I can see why my post could have mislead that, but the main thing I was trying to get across, was that if I had to do that type of hill work very often, a wider wheelbase is probably in order. I don't know if I had set my wheels to the widest possition, would have made me pucker any less! Certainly wasn't going to do it, for a onetime favor.

If the brakes were a concern in my mind that day, it was only that they hadn't been tested to that level, before that. They did hold for me, with no slipping when I did make forward-reverse changes, and I did have to do that on the slope a few times. Not being familiar with other CUTs, I don't know if it was any better or worse than others.

In general, I plan to avoid slopes like that in the future, but its not because of the brakes. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
