Back many years ago B.C. (Before Cell) phones, I was at a place in town doing some manual labor, got called into an interview. Asked if i could have an hour to go home and clean up, 'Nope. Right now'. I wore a T-shirt, scruffy jeans, long unkempt hair and beard. I couldn't smell my self, but i'd worked up a sweat so i'd assume i wasn't odour free.

Walked into the interview room, one person, it turned out she was the HR director. Her eyes kinda flashed, i thought here we go the quickest interview, three hours later she was showing me around and introducing me to people as we went. I became the IT manager a few years later with my boss being the CFO. Full disclosure, that company went from one surgery center and two clinics, to multiple states clinics and surgery centers. Not advocating a particular dress code, my last interview was suit and tie.

My favorite helicopter parent interview story from a few years ago: An aquaintance who is a very successful entrepreneur reported a 23 year-old male showed up for an interivew with his mother.

"Very nice to meet you Mrs. Smith. This building has WI-FI if you want to use your laptop; if you didn't bring your laptop you may borrow one of ours."

"Oh, I intend to sit in on the interview."

"There won't be an interview."

They are for a grade school Christmas program. The size is a normal 14/16 kids pants. We saw a total of one suit in 8 stores and it was too big on a clearance rack. I admit, dress pants are probably available at other stores, we just need to keep looking. We went to Burlington, Kohl's, TJ Max, Walmart, Meijer, and my wife went to a few more. The town of 30k people we live in has limited choices.
Didn't realize you were talking about kids clothes, for some reason I was under the impression your son was high school/college age and this was for a job interview.
Actually, you have a pretty good selection of stores where you live...I'd have to drive 2+ hours to get that many choices.

A few weeks ago we ate at a restaurant with my youngest and her family. As we walked out to our vehicles the grandson casually mentioned that his toes were sticking thru the front of his shoes. My daughter said impossible because she bought the shoes three months earlier and got them a half size too big. But after feeling the front of his shoes, in the dark parking lot, she found that his toes were right at the end of the shoes and his big toenail had cut thru the top of one sneaker. Both her and son-in-law were going to be out of town the next day and the kids were spending the night with us so it was off to WallyWorld where they didn't have half sizes and we ended up getting him cheap shoes that were a full size too big.

Six year old boys grow fast!

AND, he wants "snake boots" for Christmas. So I spent half a day looking for what we call sh*t stompers for this extremely active kid. Two Tractor Supply Stores, Rural King, Walmart, Shoe Carnival, and a couple hardware stores and no luck. Lady at one of the TSC stores said it was impossible for them to order shoes/clothes for ages 5 to 12. Finally found them at a locally owned and stocked farm supply store.

I loaned my grandson a pair of size 12 work boots and muck boots 2 months after he turned 14 Got them back 7 months later when he graduated to a size 13. Told my son good luck

Some grow fast again once they hit puberty. Turds turning 16 on Friday. Thankfully his feet have stopped growing for a bit and still wearing a 13. But he's hit 6'3 so far.

When my then teenage sons were passing through my foot size I said no ski boots were too good for them, rationalizing that I would inherit them as they kept on growing.
