Kubota B2601
Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum and am looking for some feedback for my scut or compact purchase. I have 2 acres to mow and have a 300' x 30' driveway to remove snow on, we get a lot of wet stuff and ice during our winters here in eastern Ontario. Using the FEL to work on some retaining walls and prepping land for a concrete slab, and snow removal. I would love to get a snow blower in the future but can't justify the $5000 - $6000 at the moment, I also already have a 30" cut walk behind blower. I have priced two tractors but am not sure which one to go with. This would be my first purchase and am definitely a newbie to tractors. The prices are quoted in Canadian funds.

John Deere 1025R with H120 FEL, 60" MMM, 54" snow blade with hydraulic control. $22,240.

Kubota B2301/2601 with LA434 60" bucket, 60" MMM. B2301 is $22,200 and B2601 is $23,200.

Please let me know what you think. Am I going to big with the Kubota or is the Deere to small for my snow removal. Thanks for any input.

Joel

The Kubota B series is a lot more tractor than JD 1 series.

JD 1 series is comparable to the smaller BX Kubotas.

B2301/2601 beats 1025R in every spec.

To answer your question, yes, the Deere is too small for your needs.
You need the weight and ground clearance the B2301/2601 has.

The B series compares to the JD 2-series but not in price. The only thing I'm not sure about is if the JD 1025R is enough machine for what I need to do. I don't want to buy something that would be too big for my application. But would it make more sense to basically get more tractor in the Kubota for practically the same price?

Between those two, I'd go with the B-series hands-down. Like Kenny said, if you want to cross-shop it with a John Deere equivalent, look at the 2025R or 2032R.

When I was shopping, I looked at everything I could find in the BX, B, L/1-, 2-, 3- sizes. That helped me get a feel for the size I wanted (B or 2-series). Then, it was just a matter of which one I felt more comfortable operating. I agonized over the choice between the B3350 and the 2032R. I don't think either option would have been the wrong one.

Have you done any negotiating on these tractors yet? When I was ready to buy, the 2032R ended up (negligibly) cheaper than the B3350 when they were both quoted with the attachments I wanted.

Do some more reading, there have been quite a few guys that went from the 1000 series to the 2000 series JD because the 1000 series simply was not enough machine for them. VERY common for this to happen within the first year. I understand that you are going by price, would the B series just be to big for you? If you have not already, compare physical size as well as turning radius. I would go with the B series myself, waaaaaaaay more tractor for the money.

Good luck with your decision.

I agree with the majority! Go with the B series or something in a similar size from an other brand. I think you will be much happier in the long run!

The B series won't seem like too much tractor when you get it home. I'd go for the B2601 among those choices. That's a LOT more tractor for just a LITTLE more money. It would be an easy decision for me.

But I noticed that you didn't include a snow blade in your Kubota prices. Is that included or on top of those prices?

I love my BX but I think you really would appreciate the heavier B series for the snow. Don't know what the rest of your jobs/projects will be though. Have fun researching and visiting the local tractor stores for the brands near you. I think it is very important to have a great dealer near by. A knowledgable parts/service department is very convenient and will save you some headaches.
