That could be the priority valve trying to keep up with the hydraulic system pressure rising and falling. Sounds like flow from somewhere that should not be occurring in the transmission.
Can you get the top cover off the transmission and have a look inside. Cautiously start the engine and look for leaks.

How do you propose to seal the hyd hole in the trans case that supplies the rockshaft control valve with oil @ 2250 psi if the RS housing is removed and engine started as you suggest??????????? I promise one won't have to look for that leak if RS housing is removed and engine is started. I've rarely seen the priority valve be the problem on a JD utility tractor. In fact the early 1020/2020 tractors didn't have a priority valve.

How is loader plumbed to tractor IE what controls loader??

It has two levers mounted on a small deck just right of the steering wheel. I believe those two hyd lines are then piped into the bottom of the tractor, by the filter.

I haven't had anything hooked to the remotes on the back in a long time. As soon as I noticed the rockshaft and front loader losing power, that's when I parked it to start checking.

There are some FEL spool valves that are convertible from open center & vice verse that can blow an internal seal and cause severe hyd problems. I suggest to disconnect FEL valve return hose from tractor then aim open end of said hose into hyd oil filler hole then crank engine to see if oil flows out hose with both levers in neutral.

I suppose the line to the rockshaft could be capped.

THERE"S NO LINE TO CAP. If you'll look at the parts photo I posted you'll see the RS oil supply passage is cast into the trans case IE NO LINE:thumbdown:

Yeah, you are correct . The HP line disappears into the transmission casting near the oil filter.
Would have to loosen off the front pump coupler to look for transmissions and.

Hey guys,
I wanted to reply with what I found.
I let the tractor sit for a couple of weeks then crawled underneath and loosened the drain plugs. Probably a quart of water came out all together. After that, I changed filter and cleaned screen. Seems to be working Ok now.

I have had the tractor parked out in the open, snow falling on it, then melting. Plus it has two bad boots around the shifter levers. Maybe a combination of all that with a leaking seal somewhere, just gave water too much of an opportunity to get in.

Thanks for the update. Sounds as if you're making progress.

Yeah I'm going to start with the easy ones.. IE: shifter boots.

These problems didn't start till I started parking it outside. I just need to clear out space in the barn to pull it back in there ;)
