John Deere 2305 Will not stay running

I'd suggest you do what I did... keep a small point and shoot camera in your pocket and when the condition happens again, take it out of your pocket and shoot a video that documents the problem as it is occurring.

Then post it on YouTube and make the footage "Public" and save the link.

Call John Deere's Augusta, Georgia plant, (their number is: 706-650-8882) and ask the operator who you can talk to in order to trouble shoot your issue. When you get a live person, send him the link to your video and give them a day or so to get back to you.

If their 'fix' requires something like mine, in replacing a diode or something, I'd have the dealer do the work... yeah, it's $75 bucks an hour, but at least you will have pin pointed the problem with the folks who actually built your 2305 machine.

Best for now, BD

My john deere 2305 in the past would crank up and run till I released the key from start position then it would die as though I had turned it off.
well now the tractor will spin and spin but will not fire at all. I do notice that the engine only turns over if I turn the key partially but not completely to the right.
At first I believe it was because I had parked the tractor in a down hill position under the trees but if the oil had went into the the cylinder head it would not turn over so easy.
this v4 diode people mention sounds like the problem or at least part of it. can the ignition switch be replaced with an after market one to save money?

Also I need to mention that it would eventually stay running after a few times until now. When I would turn key the lights on the dash would flicker and groan as I moved the key up and down in the hole. I most likely need an ignition switch as well as a V4 Diode. any one have ideas about this?

I would investigate the V4 diode situation before doing anything else(as in post number 9).

I have the four diodes out and in my house now. can I test them with a continuity checker?
I have tested all three and can not get closed circuit from either outside pins to the middle one and have switched my leads around at each test.
I does not sound like all three of these diodes can be bad at once so I may be testing it improperly. I know now how nasty and dirty it gets under that pretty cover not to mention water, mud, leaves.

My mistake,,, I meant 3 diodes

this Solonoid for the fuel pump is nr m806808 and can be purchased on ebay from 25 dollars to 100.00 dollars.
this thing is made in china and is used in many other machines. John deere is just a middle man.

I am puzzled by your description of the leads on the diodes.
I am not a John Deere expert so take my comments cautiously.
Diodes have only two leads unless there is something very special going on here.
Transistors on the other hand have 3 leads.

Its is called a diode but it has three legs and has I think two diodes or three internally. I just put in three new diodes and still the engine would not fire up.
once I removed the solenoid the engine runs. If I push in the solenoid while its hooked up and running the solenoid will remain pulled in.
my issue is that the solenoid is not getting voltage to pull it in but the holding circuit is working. I purchased a new solenoid that only good tthing was I bought it for 65 dollars instead of 188.00 from john deere. I don't know what else to check before I put the front cover back .
