Not supposed to be fiddling around with the pto lever on the side of the transmission case , always wondered why they even put the lever on there with hydraulic pto clutch models . Instead only use and enjoy the connivence of the independent hydraulic pto clutch located between the transmission gear shifters.

I agree with you in wondering why JD left pto lever on the side of trans case when ind hyd pto was on tractor.

Did you figure out your issues? My 1840 had an internal hydraulic leak that kept the independent PTO piston from developing full pressure and the slipping PTO wore out the clutch pack, likely before I got the tractor.

New hydraulic line solved the issue, won't reoccur soon.

I haven't messed with it too much yet I've just worked around it. Been wanting to check my pressures but too much going on at work.
