I am looking at a JD 3720 with a blown engine. The 3720 has the 1.5l yanmar with turbo and intercooler. I was wondering if I would have to replace it with the exact same engine or if any engine compatible with a 3x20 series would be fine? The 3530 and the 3120 were both 1.5l yanmars and the 3320 was a 1.6l yanmar.

Also any good sources to look for a new or rebuilt engine would be helpful. Googling the engine model # Yanmar 3TNV84HT isn't coming up with much.

Thank you

Is the engine rebuildable? A lot of Diesel engines have sleeves in the cylinders. Yanmar is used in a lot of marine applications. That may be a source. Have you priced new engine through John Deere?

Thanks for the reply xrjohndeere. I am by no means engine knowledgeable person. I do not know what is currently wrong with the engine or what type of problems a rebuild could solve or not solve. So I was thinking if I replace the engine how broad of a engine group do I have to pick from because the 3720 seems to be a fairly uncommon tractor wheras some of the others are more common.

I'm guessing John Deere or Yanmar do not have new tier III engines available to customers. I'm guessing tier IV engines probably aren't compatible with the electronics etc that are onboard a 3720.

In the past I have talked to multiple John Deere dealers about a mower deck compatibility with my x740 and they gave me wrong answers so I don't exactly trust John Deere dealerships to answer this question which is slightly more complicated.

Thanks for any and all help. Cheers

According to TractorData.com, the 3720 was manufactured between 2005 and 2013. As such, I don't think it has a computer. It is 44hp. That indicates this was a Tier II as there were never any sub 75hp tractors Tier III unless the manufacturer took an exemption, which I doubt Deere did.

One of the members here did a new engine replacement on a Kubota and had over $7000 (IIRC) into it. So, unless you can buy this tractor for next to nothing, it is not worth getting into.

Your statement that you are not engine knowledgable indicates to me you are in over your head and should not attempt this project. But, if you are going to do this, the Deere parts list is on line, so I'd start there in comparing part numbers across the 3000 series tractors. If you register on Deere parts, you should be able to see part pricing.

What shape is the tractor in? How many hours? Price? Get it cheap enough it may be worth it?

Define blown.. hole in block? Burnt down piston? Head gasket? Could be $50, could be $5000+

Are these sleeves engines? If not can you get oversized pistons?
