John Deere 4400 not starting HELP!

Having a problem starting the tractor. Not hearing the click for the engine fuel shut-off solenoid engaging. Mechanic came and checked the starter and that's not the problem. He "hotwired" the starter and engine would crank but was like there was no fuel. Any suggestions? And the sooner the better, it's sitting out in the middle of our property.

A mechanic came? Did he know about checking out the fuel shut-off solenoid?

From his hot-wire test, seems the fuel shut-off solenoid would be the likely culprit.

A search here on fuel shut-off solenoid should give you some good reading to follow up.

We figured it was the fuel shut-off solenoid but he's not a J.D. mechanic and wasn't sure where it was or anything like that so looking for some help on here.

Had a similar problem last year. As soon as I read that there was a thermistor in the fuel shutoff circuit I knew what was wrong. I have repaired a dozen things with bad thermistors/fusistors/varistors, from coffeemakers to VCRs to dehumidifiers to blower motors. It is always that stupid, cheap little part. I bought two and expect to use the spare within ten years.

I didn't even put it in when it came. When I needed it I put it in with solderless butt splices. The fuse panel screws and bolts are obvious enough... but the wiring harness is very tight. With the lower left side pulled inside the frame the fuse panel can be turned almost 90 degrees. The thermistor is attached to pigtails on a lower relay and just tucks in among the wiring (on mine anyhow).
