Saw in the local paper tonight. JD 4400 w/FEL for $14000. Said it was a 2002.

Can anyone make any educated guesses on what features it has. It said nothing about hydro and had 175 hours on it.

Under what circumstances could this be considered a good deal? I may call tomorrow and get more info.

Thanks,
Dave

There were a few posts recently on the differences between the 4400 and the current models. Speaking only for my area - if the machine was straight and appears to be well cared for I'd say that is a decent price - probably got a little negotiation room too! Maybe later in the morning a few owners will chime in as well.

Good Luck - I saw you are set on a L3830 - that's a nice machine - was this a last minute option?

I have a 2000 model JD4400, mine has cruise control but not the E-match.The E-match is an option I personnaly do not need( I am not sure what other options are available on the 4410) I have the old front axle design on my 4400.It sounds like a fair price on the tractor you are looking at.I do not know the price of a new JD 4410 ,but the 4400 you are looking at will do everything that the 4410 will do and save you a lot of money. 175 hours is no time at all on the tractor.

Last minute option....? I guess. Letting go the money is my issue right now. I figure I could put up a pole barn and do some other work at my property, for what I could buy a tractor for. On the other hand, I really need a tractor to help at the property. I'm starting to lose sleep over it /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I'm still looking for a good deal on a used one, that might allow me to do some things to my place, yet still be able to get a tractor. The problem is, the used ones I want are $12k-$14K, and when you talk about monthly payments there isn't much difference than a new one.

I think the 4400 is smaller than the L3830, right? I keep finding these smaller ones and the same thing keeps turning me away, size/power. I've got an idea of how fast I want one to work. From my limited test drives, the L3830 seems acceptable. The other smaller ones, just don't seem like they are quite as fast/strong. However, in reality it is probably my imagination.

I always cringe when I read the "smaller" comments. The 4400 and the 4x10 series tractors are very hard working machines. I'm sure there are specific differences in specs and size, but believe me, you'd be amazed with what I've done with my "small" 4310. I quote that because of the comments my neighbor made when I got it. Seriously, when I bought the tractor back in February my neighbor admitted recently that he thought I had spent a large sum of $$ on a glorified garden tractor. Keep in mind he has an 18000lb beast of a TLB. It just isn't the case, I've performed some serious work with my machine, including moving rocks that are incredibly heavy (I got good at flipping instead of picking them up /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif).

I re-read your post - it's not your imagination. There are CUTS in several sizes. I easily could have gone for a Kioti in the DK40 range, or the large Chassis Deere. I looked at the Grand L series line from Bota as well. The bottom line for me lead me to the mid chassis size as the best overall fit. I'm almost done with my earth moving and reshaping chores. Soon I'll be settling into doing mundane tractor stuff like mowing and box blading (yeah!!!) - that is until we move to our other lot... then more stumping... more rock moving...more earth moving... (Yeah!!!).

They are all hard working tools that allow us to do jobs we'd need a lifetime to accomplish by hand. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the 4400 is the right tractor for you - just consider your needs and be realistic. I've read it here several times worded a number of ways... but I think we all get the "Tim the Toolman Taylor" thing going when we look at these things... "more power". /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good Luck - I'm sure you'll arrive at what is right for you.

I forgot to add this - at least here in CT, good used tractors are hard to come by. If this one is good and priced right it would get snapped up quick.

Pto Hp Kub 30 - Deere 28

Weight Kub 2990 - Deere 2925

Turning Radius Kub 8.2' - Deere 7.5'

Hydro Gpm Kub 11.9 - Deere 13.9

I don't think there would be a huge differance in the work you;d get outta either....

I have a 2001, correct me if I am wrong, BUT in 02 the 10's came out and no more 44(00). I have 1150 hrs on mine in 2 years. I like the power and it is dependeble. Check the ss# for the year. For that kind of $ it shoud have hydro tranny.

What kind of work do you do ? Thats a fair amount of hours.
Any problems with yours ? I have a 2000 model hydro etc,my biggest problem or the most annoying has been the rear wheel bolts coming loose(just an annoyance) and the differental lock has failed me twice and I chose not to have it repaired at this time,I can get by with the steering brakes. The tie rods are wore out,but I can fix that better than replacing them. I use mine hard and overall I am satisified.
