John Deere 140
I Have a John Deere 445 that is running rough. Governor, spark plugs, map sensor have all been replaced and tractor still runs rough. Tractor runs better with hose off of map sensor.

:welcome: to TBN

Looks to be a s/n break at 70000. Are you above or under that?

History of fuel, and fuel filters.. or what may have happened when the trouble started.

Reasons for replacing those items you mentioned, may help.

Above that serial number break.
Tractor was brought to me in pieces. I put it back together and returned back to customer. it ran for two days no issues started acting up was able to make it run smooth by holding governor linkage. Thought that governor needed replaced due to that. ( I did adjust governor via tech manual first, nothing changed) i did change the fuel filter, nothing changed. If I pull the hose off of the map sensor it would start to run better. That痴 why I replaced the sensor, no change.

Was the engine disassembled when it came to you?

Any reason given by the customer as to why he/she disassembled the tractor?

try disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes, then retry, that should reset the computer..

Yes the engine was dissasembled. Customer had someone else work on it first. They tore it apart and for what ever reason gave up on it and returned it in pieces.
Customer had new piston rings put in due to engine smoking. That痴 why the engine was disassembled

Yes I have it did not change anything. if I remove the hose from the map sensor it would run better if I plug the hose back in to the map sensor it would start running rough again.

Does this happen at all throttle settings?

Does it run long enough to warm up?

What do the plugs look like, lean, rich or?

It happens at all throttle settings.
Will not run longer than 10 seconds.
Idk about what the spark plugs look like, I will hafto see tomorrow when I work on it again.

I don稚 know why, but the glow plug light keeps randomly flashing.... and I know this doesn稚 have spark plugs

If you have spark plugs then it is either a 425 or 445, the later has EFI. So if you saying this has a glow plug light coming then it must be the 455 which is diesel. So you have confused us all with what you have posted.

It's time for some basic trouble shooting.
- Check for proper valve gap adjustment
- Check for spark on both plugs
- Remove the throttle body, intake manifold and gaskets
- check for proper fit of gaskets or perhaps even missing gaskets
- Re-install the gaskets, intake manifold and throttle body - make sure that the assembly bolts are torqued properly.
- Check for proper fuel pump pressure

Can you explain this post:
I don稚 know why, but the glow plug light keeps randomly flashing.... and I know this doesn稚 have spark plugs

What light is flashing?

What engine is in the machine?
