it has 1232 hrs. i bought it used from some guy in Missouri last year used. the problems have been showing up just as i tear into this thing to get it up to par. Rebuilt the whole deck last year then replaced a lot of the bearings to tighten up the aws. There seems to be no maintenance done on this thig from the previous owner once i noticed that after mowing once and noticing a lack of power compared to the 455 we owned 15 years ago i started digging. Changed ALL the fluids twice just to be sure (including filters) and that didn't seem to help with the slow seeming deck so i started looking into solutions and ended up starting this thread to try to figure it out.

When i did the valves i followed mmrbeefs vid on YouTube and haven't had any funny noises, fires or explosions, so i think i did it right. Also replaced the air filter when i changed the fluids the first time ( just got the home maint. kit.)

Based on what you said i am guessing its that idle screw, nothing else has helped so i am guessing its that. my only other concern is that the governor being turned all the way out isn't causing it to belch black smoke. Should it be? just doesn't seem right to me. Thanks for the help so far.

After I get this problem figured out does anyone know how to find a cab for this thing? Have a few for sale around here but they are for a 400 tractor. Do they fit? Can they be made to fit? Got to figure out the engine issues first but that will be the next one to tackle.

Thanks beenthere.

Although I'm no expert, I would not expect the gov. adjustment to cause black smoke. Smoke is a symptom of unburned fuel, as you get when you load a diesel at wide open throttle, or if the intake is restricted. Your problem seems to be a lack of fuel, thus no smoke. Adjust the high idle screw and see if it addresses your problem.

Will do. I am going to have to turn that governor down if it works just so I can get the nut back on.
