<<I hope your Dad gets many years of use from his tractor. I like him just from what you've spoken about him. You are blessed to have him around.>>

Everyone who has met my Dad, likes him. I feel very blessed. I wished we would have gotten him this tractor with a cab /heater years ago... I will enjoy sleeping in this winter and DAD will be enjoying being out and pushing snow. My husband and I live 750 feet from the highway and the folks are 75 feet. The gator we got him this past spring is another thing I wished we would have gotten him years ago.

No matter what age one is, there is a way to make modifications.

I am now taking out a fence while Dad is at work.... this is a fence I helped put in when I came home late when I was a teenager - 35 years ago. Dad had this thing about if you can run all night, then you can work all day. The other good chore to have as a punishment was cleaning out the hog house, sheep barn or the chicken coop. Now days kids would be screaming child abuse.

I need to research the four holes on the tire rims... to see if these take weight attachments. The other thing is having the welding shop put on brackets on the back and hanging weights??? I do know this blade has helped some, but is still needing something. Dad hasn't gotten a chance yet to really use the tractor since we put the blade on, this weekend he will be off and maybe we can tweak it yet.

At least he is ready for the first snow. We got chains for the front wheels, since it is front wheel assist and is 4 wheel drive.

Thanks again,
Ann

Now you are bringing back memories!!! My Dad was the same way. If you wanted to sleep in a little on Sunday morning you better be home a little early on Saturday night!!! Come in late and noisy, up early with a large chore list!!!!

You are right, now it'd be considered abuse. THAT is what's partially wrong with our latest generation.

The holes in your rear wheels are for weights. The problem would be finding them at a decent price. They'll cost you a minimum of a dollar a pound.

I'd be cautious about chaining the front. By doing so you are putting the majority of the work load on the front axle driveline. But your Dad is probably gentle enough on his equipment to survive that.

P.S. I lost my Dad to Alzheimer's fifteen years ago. I'd buy him a brand new tractor with cab just to have him around now. :)

Sorry you don't have your Dad with you any more. If you lived closer, my Dad would adopt you.

Dad is one who can sleep thru a tree going down outside his window, but when we were kids hitting a step just right would wake him. I grew up with all older brothers, so as long as I got home before them, I got lighter chores.

Many of the younger generation are lacking the work ethics and values that we learned. And honest day's work for and honest day's pay. Many of the younger generation want to come to work when they get up and enjoy their breaks and lunch period and knock off early. They want the supervisor position and the nice corner office without the skills, experience or ability. Some of them have NO CLUE!!!

OK, back to tractors... I wondered when Dad wanted front chains.... we had a lot of ICE last year and our share of the white stuff. I asked him last weekend about back chains and he said not with 4 wheel drive. The front wheel chains go on in less than 5 minutes. I got them off of ebay new and cheap.

He has back chains on his old IH, they never come off. That is the tractor that was new in 82... that is the one he moves trees, digs with, etc. It doesn't have a cab, heater or radio -- so it will be parked for the winter.

Dad is still going thru the tractor and loader manuals he got... he has changed the oil, filters, etc. already. He has tested the antifreeze, etc. I will talk to him about the front chains... see what he says....

Thanks for the heads up on the front chains.

Ann
