john deere 535 baler

Do you know if anyone can put new rubber sleeves on a John Deere 535 round baler lower belt drive feed roller shaft? Ours got bent and you can't buy a new one, but I found a used one, BUT the rubber sleeves are wore out.... OR do you know where I can find a good one perhaps?

Not sure who told you that you cant buy them any longer, you most certainly can still get them. However there are a couple of things to consider. first would be its an expensive part to buy and 535's are getting old. The second would be if just replacing 1 roll you have now changed your drive diameters from top roll to bottom roll, these really should be within approx. 1/8" from each other. With two different diameter rolls being driven at the same time running the same belts something has to give, chains, sprockets, belts, and laces will all pay a toll for the constant push pull motion being applied so typically both rolls would get replaced. Bare minimum you would invest a couple of thousand, you might be just as well served to find another fair condition 535 and make 1 baler out of the two. Good luck

Ditto what MORRISONSTEEL stated. New roller is about $960 from JD

Our John Deere dealer told us that he couldn't order one. I "reasked" today with your knowledge, he replied this: According to our parts catalog they are very specific as far as the rollers are concerned. They don’t suggest that you change both rollers , they tell you directly do not use the original roller part# AE57729 with the later part numbers such as AFH202027. I will send you a page from the parts catalog showing the part notes that I am looking at.
He then said you CAN buy a new lower one, but NOT just one???? (well he said he wouldn't want to sell me just the one anyhow with the John Deere catalog warning) and he said both of them are pushing $2,000!? Plus, he thinks the bearings are different and bearing holders???? He hasn't sent me the page he was referring to however??? Do you think the reason he doesn't want to sell just the bottom one is because of a diameter difference? Any idea of the diameter of the new AFH202027? I can see how much are old one is and compare? It is an old baler I know, but it doesn't have a massive amount of bales on it I "think". We bought it used about 3 years ago and the owner "said" it didn't have a whole lot of bales on it and it didn't look like it either, still had a LOT of paint inside the bale chamber and the net wrap had never been used, the guy only used twine. Anyhow, further help and advice would be appreciated. IF I can successfully just put the AFH202027 on I would, but I will have to back up and massively rethink if I HAVE to put a new top and bottom on. Also, do you know if the AFH202027 will use the same bearings and bearing holders and same sprocket, etc. or is it different?

My Problem is my service manager and techs at the local John Deere dealer literally know nothing about a 535, they have told me so, they never have seen one here. He just sent me this and a copy of the pages: Allen, notice the warning is repeated for items numbered # 8 ,# 16 ,and #17 . also notice that to install AFH202027 you must also order key # 15 AE70149 . I hope this is helpful , I wish I could tell you why Deere doesn稚 want the rollers mixed but I honestly have no clue as to the answer. Thanks Larry I am attaching the page, I hope I can attach it correctly anyhow!?

If any of you guys wouldn't mind, could you call or email the service manager here and help him out to help us out? He may not be fully understanding what the notes are saying, after seeing the notes I am confused??? His name is Larry Brown at Tennessee Tractor, Paris, TN (731) 642-7080, tell him it is regarding Terry's 535 baler...

I just sent im an email. there are 3 bulletins out to help explain this process. Deere changed the diameter of the rolls and if you have original rolls, unfortunately they do need to be replaced in pairs. In case he did not get the email, tell him to check solutions 57268, 56069, and 56624.

It's seems odd to me that those warnings aren't included in the 535 online parts catalog. I agree with jd110 that drive roller diameters must be the same or severe stress will be exerted on belts & drive chains.

Fairly new notes related to the # change of the drive rolls. They are essentially drive rolls from 7 series balers, the bearing housings have changed somewhat to accommodate later series balers otherwise they are the same. They will work and yes you would have to replace both of them (needs to be within 1/8" diameter of each other), 2k is a correct figure so you will really want to make sure that your machine is worth the investment (or find another used 535). In our part of the country a really nice 535 "might" go for $3-4,500, a beat up one with really worn drive rolls and belts on their last leg a dealer may not even trade it in, worth about $1,000-$1,500 retail at the most, and you cant really afford to make them good again. Not trashing the 535 it was an excellent round baler and other than the addition of stuffer roll (7 series), heavier drives(up to 100 chain on 9 series), getting rid of hyd twine tie(6 series), full width mega tooth p/u(7 series)etc, etc are pretty much the same machine today.
