I am looking at buying an 08 jd 5525 with cab and loader it has the 12 forward and reverse transmission, they are asking $30500. It had less than 800 hours and its a 2wd. Any info on this? Is the price right? Does this model have any issues?

that sounds a tad high for a 2wd drive tractor,an yes i know it has a cab.but 2wd drive tractors loose more of their resale value.id offer them $28,000.

My father has owned a JD 5410 since he bought it new in 2000. Just the older model of the 5525. I've used the tractor all the time on his farm and is a great machine. Has the exact same power reverser transmission you spoke of and I can only say good things. Although his is a 4 wheel drive I have never had an issue with power and done everything from plowing the fields to moving manure and its handled everything with ease. I cannot say anything for it directly but I couldn't imagine that I could have gotten anything besides better. You can't go wrong with a Deere.

As for the 2x4 what do you plan to do with the tractor? If its mainly field work it shouldn't hurt you. I think in the 1000 hours on the 5410 I have I think I've actually shifted it into 4x4 one time when the water rose across the bridge on his land had flooded and I wanted to make sure I got through. I wouldn't let the 2x4 be a deal breaker but it does hurt resale as said earlier. I would just be sure to test drive it and try to do some of the tasks you would do and make sure it would work for you.
