John Deere 6220
I have a John Deere 6220 4 whd tractor with a closed hydraulic system. I also have a Hardy 1700 st log loader trailer. I want to run the loader trailer off the tractor hydraulic system. The tractor has a closed system, the trailer has an open system, and a lower flow rate and pressure. I have heard there is a kit John Deere offers to allow for open system attachments to be used on this tractor. Has anyone had any experience with this? Hard to get solid information...

Do you have a valve on the trailer.

Perhaps it is a convertible valve, and if it is, . A CC plug could make the valve CC..

Right now the trailer has its own power pack that consists of a 11 hp Honda engine, 8 g/min 2500 psi pump, tank and control levered to run the loader. I want to get rid of the power pack. It's looking more and more like a pto pump might be the best way to go(?).

Thanks for the feedback.

Welcome Dirigo54, I think JJ is trying to say that at the very least, all you might have to do is change/add a CC (closed center) plug to your existing valve. I'd say that was worth investigating and save some money. Adding a pto pump and altering existing hoses could be an easy $500, where a few phone calls and a $5 plug……..

OK, I agree that would be simpler and cheaper! But I don't know what to look for. Where would this valve be located? I assume you do not mean the valve bank that holds the levels to control the boom, stick and bucket? Or do you? Or is this a valve located somewhere in between the pump and valve bank?

Thanks for your help!

If 6220 has scv's why not run hoses from log trailer to tractor. The cylinders on log trailer should operate fine on CC system of tractor scv's

You said open center system on trailer.

Again, How many spools and what kind of valve?

If he only has hoses he should be able to plug into the remotes.

Thanks for your info, but I don't know what you mean when you write "scv's". I am really new to the world of tractor hydraulics. Does this stand for solid control valve?

Sorry, I don't know what you mean when you write 'spool'. The loader currently has a Honda 11 hp engine that runs a pump. The pump feeds a valve bank, which is made up of 5 valves, 3 of which function both right and left AND to the front and back (bucket, boom, stick, outriggers, etc.). I stand on a small platform and run the loader by pulling and pushing, or moving right and left on the different valves. Does this help clarify things. I am really new to the world of tractor hydraulics.

Do you know what PB is or power beyond.

If not, it is a port on a valve that allows pump flow to continue on to the next valve. The OUT port of that same valve goes to tank.

What I am getting at is that if the valve has a PB port, it can be converted to closed center hyd system like your tractor.

That means that you can parallel the log lift valve set with the tractor CC system.

Can you show picture of valve bank?
