John Deere 6220 w/ Log Loader Trailer

If the pump flow is say 10 GPM, and one spool is using 5 GPM, then another spool can use the other 5 GPM

You can use two spools at the same time if you only use partial lever.

One spool can use the full pump flow at a certain speed.

If you now pull or push another lever, the first spool operation will slow down as the second spool uses some of the pump flow.

If you drop back to one spool, you regain the speed of operation and can use full pump flow .

Excerpt:

OpenCenter Systems with a Series/Parallel Connection: Oil from the pump is directed through the control valves in series, as well as in parallel. In Neutral, the oil passes through the valves in series. However when any valve is operating, the return is closed and the oil is available to all the valves through the parallel connection.

There are series valves where this is not possible, as the first spool will use all the pump flow and the other spools have none.

Tractordata says your 6220 has 25 gpm of hydraulic flow. I doubt the 11 horse Honda pump outs out that much ( you could check its pump) so you should get no diminishment of hydraulic capability usin the remotes. A Deere dealer should be able to supply the few parts and hoses you'll need. Let us know how it goes. Jim

One question comes to mind; what does 'detented' mean? I get the pressure issues, but don't what this term means in terns of pressures and such.
Thanks!

This is simply a valve (handle) position that stay's there. It might be controlled (cancelled or return to neutral) by a certain psi setting. This avoids using a bungee or some other means to hold the tractor valve open. Your JD should have this, but as mentioned, be sure it's on the flow to your loader. What you're trying to do is really quite simple and there must be a local "guy" that can set you straight, i.e.; a local farm or machinery mechanic or even someone from your town garage that fools with the plowing equipment.

Detent has nothing to do with pressure.

It simply locks the lever into a position, otherwise stay where you left it.

Some valves have the lever detented in fwd/rev.

It is useful on certain implement where the you want constant flow, and not useful on cyl operation.

The simple inexpensive way to have constant flow is using the bungee to hold the lever in the open position.

Detent on a hyd valve can be utilized to hold control lever in position to operate a cylinder either extending or retracting until detent is overrode by system psi at the end of hyd cyl piston travel therefore leaving tractor operators hands free to operate other functions such as the steering wheel or other controls.

Thanks. I'm learning tons of stuff just from everyone who has responded on this forum. I have gotten the number of someone at a large John Deere dealership not too far away who has the reputation of being well versed in hydraulics. I'll contact him next week.

Aaron-
Thank you. I found a similar diagram in the trailer's owners manual. I have gotten in touch with the nearest dealer and am waiting to hear back from him. Plugging into the tractors hydraulic system would be the easiest way for me to run the loader.
