Even if you go to a 4000 series the simple oil changes are just as easy since both motors are Yanmar. One is black and the other green. You'll get good servicing with Deere not to mention the great parts department.

Hey Bellville, if your name refers to location, we are very close!

Thanks a lot for all the positive info you have to say about the 790. It seems like a really nice little tractor and will probably do 95% of what I want to do! I've basically been force-feed more information about John Deere Tractors in the past week than I ever imagined. My mentality of "if this is great than more must be better" is getting the best of me right now.

I drove a 4510 with a 460 loader and LX6 cutter ($20,900) this weekend. I've jumped up another size from my last few post, for less than $1500 difference over the 4410 I can get a bigger tractor. I should probably just buy the 4710 and get it over with.

Do you know anyone local that will deliver culverts? I was thinking about metal ones but I just bought a Bull Dozer so I might actually have to get a cement one. What about sand and gravel delivery?

Thanks!!!!!

If you don't live on the property, then seat time is an issue. The 790 would probably be fine if you were living on the property as you could mow at your liesure.

I purchased a little more tractor than I really needed, at one time seriously considering a 790. However, I also do not live on my rural property. When I'm there I need to get the work done as soon as possible. My 39 HP Kubota swings the 6 foot bush hog with ease. I don't have to rush and have spare time to "play".

I don't live on the property and that's about where I'm at on the tractor right now. I test drove the JD 4510 this past weekend, it's 39hp with a 6' cutter. This is probably where I'll end up!

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's funny how the tractor gets bigger and bigger. I started out looking at the JD 790/NH TC30/Kubota L2800

The fine folks at TBN do a fine job of spending other peoples money...I've become especially good at it since I bought my tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Mitch, yes my name does refer to my location, my property is just north of Bellville. I know what you mean about tractor fever, if my budget had not held me back who knows what I would have wound up with.

I have ordered two culverts so far, both gcmp, from:

Vincik's Bldg Supply Inc
513 E Main St, Bellville, TX 77418
(979) 865-3674

I dont' know if they carry concrete culverts, but there is a large concrete fabricator on 36 just north of Sealy.

I have been ordering the gravel for my driveway from:

G E Huebner Concrete
Bellville, TX 77418
(979) 865-2274

I am not sure what might be available closer to Fayette County, but I have had good dealings with the company's above.

By the way what size dozer did you get?

Thanks a lot for the info! We just bought the property so I don't know the area real well. We're right on the edge of Fayette, Colorado and Austin County, east of Fayetteville.

I got a John Deere 2010 Crawler, it's old but still seems to run great. I've driven it around a little bit but haven't had a chance to really use it! It's going to be delivered in a couple weeks, about the same time I decide on a tractor! Where did you buy your 790? I've been to Foster's in Hockley and Jaeger's in Giddings!

Know any good loghome builders in the area? We've been to a couple out on 290, just wondering if there are anymore around!

What kind of price should I expect to pay for a 24" x 12' culvert? What about gravel?

I've got way too many questions!!!!!!!! We haven't closed on the property yet. It's just going to be a weekend place for quite a while so I won't be able to get that much done at a time. It's needs everything, power, water, propane, septic, etc...............! We've got a long hard road ahead of us but I think we're ready for the challenge!

Thanks again for the info!!!!!!!!!!

It doesn't matter as long as you have the appropriate fill and compaction over it. I put in an 18" X 20' corrugated plastic culvert a couple of months ago and I drive my 9000 lb dozer over it constantly. The rule of thumb per Army field manual FM 5-34 The Combat Enigineer manual is a minimum of 12" inches or 50% of the pipes diameter for covering. Of course I have always worried that if you have a 3 ft galvenized pipe that 12" would not work and you would want to go the 50% route. I always use the P for Plenty rule /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the info! Is there any special way to go about installing a culvert, other than what you have mentioned? Do you just drop a culvert in the creek and start filling it up with gravel? Or is there more to it than that? Do I need to use something as a base for the culvert to sit on?

Just to clarify! On an 18" culvert, I should have 12" of gravel on top of the culvert? Does that stay the same for 2 (two) - 18" culverts side by side? But a 36" culvert should have 18" of gravel on top of it?

Thanks again for the info, as you can see I can ask quesitons all day long! I'm trying to learn so I know what to start doing on the property as soon as I close on it!

Actually I should have said 50% or 12". With an 18" you can go with 9". Your dozer will not put much load on that pipe if backfill it correctly. Heck you could go with 4-5" and still not crush the pipe if you drive over the pipe perpendicular. The dozer speads it's weight over a greater area than does a wheeled vehicle. Don't try driving over the pipe lengthwise or it will collapse until the backfill in compacted or adequately settled.
