Buying Advice John Deere 790 4X4 advice

Mitch, I bought my 790 at Brookside in Katy, I don't know if it was the cheapest, but I felt good about the price and I liked the dealer.

The gravel I purchased was 3/4 rock with fly ash added to help it set up, it cost $17 a yard delivered. I think at this point I will wait until I make a bigger purchase and hopefully get a better price.

The culvert pipes were 20'x15" and were around $125.00.

I am doing the same as you, my property needs driveway, power, septic, water well, and of course, a house.

Like you said it's a big job and with your dozer and tractor you should make good headway.

It's not necessary to go OVER 12"? I thought 12" was the minimum number! OK, thanks for the info, I will definitely keep that in mind!

That sure sounds like a good price! The culverts not a bad price either. I'll probably end up with a metal culvert, Tractors4u said that I shouldn't have a problem with weight distribution!

I've got so many questions on the "correct" way to do things, I just don't want to find out the hard way!

I really appreciate everyones help! I've only gone up about $5K in tractor in the past week! But seriously, THANKS!!!!!!!

It took a little bit, but I knew I remembered a thread that Harv had posted with pictures and very good descriptions of his culvert project. Check it out - it should help you a lot!

I never even tried to do that. I just figured if the little hand was there pointing, the images would open! I can't get them to open up either.

Update for those that wanna know! I really appreciate everyone's help on this, I really feel like I made a wise choice and it's from everyone's great advice! Thanks a lot!

I ordered a JD 4710 with a 460 loader, LX6 cutter and i-match. I should get it on Friday! I got the whole thing for just under $24K out the door!

The 790 seems like a really nice machine but my main concern was the size. I kept going up in size, for a little more I can get this, for a little bit more I can get this and so on and so on til I got to the 4710. I figure this tractor will do just about everything I need, it might be a little overkill for now but if I buy more property down the road, I'll be prepared!

It's nice to be somewhere that everyone realizes the importance of farming, weather it's large scale or very small scale like me!

I've got a JD 2010 bulldozer coming this weekend too, I should have plenty to keep me busy for the weekend!

Congrats Mitch, that's quite a leap up from a 790. I'm <font color="green"> JD Green </font> with envy. And a dozer to top it off!?! Is that the small one you were asking about a while back? I saw a die-cast 2010 at the dealer the other day. Nice looking little machine. Be sure to post some pictures of both /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yeah, it's the dozer that I was asking about earlier. It's a nice little machine and seems to run good!

I'll get some pictures of both this weekend and post em! This is going to be a long week, I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas morning!

Congrats on your purchase, that is a big step up from a 790 but as the saying goes about horsepower: "Some is good, more is better, too much is just enough". Better to buy a tractor a little to large now than have to trade up on a smaller machine a few years later. Hopefully the information the TBN owners shared helped you decide on your new JD. Oh, and I would LOVE a dozer, not that I need one very often, I would just love to have one.
