John Deere B

There is a little more to this story than I have shared so far...This John Deere B in the picture belonged to my wife's late grandfather, and we now live in his old house. The tractor was never sold after he died and was left in my shed for the first 3 years I lived in his house. I didn't know much about tractors then and really had no interest in them until now. My wife's father came and moved the tractor to his house last summer (along with a Ford Model T and Ford 860 tractor). My father-in-law hasn't done anything with the B and now I am interested in it. Before I went and asked to buy it, I thought I would educate myself on it. I haven't talked to him about it yet - I have to catch him in just the right mood. The picture I posted is from my tool shed about 3 years ago. My father-in-law farms corn and soybeans (1200 acres) and really has no interest in this John Deere B.

I've seen alot of fellows that liked those spoke wheels that found a pair and used them, even if not oem for that year.. etc.

If you want a work tractor... forget about that B.. and go for the ford 860. Live pto.. possibility of optional power steering.. and more ponies.. mid 30hp range.. You can find parts everywhere for the ford N and hundred series tractors.. and red and grey parts are, on the whole, less expensive than green or green and yellow ones!

Yep.. last time I walked in to a JD parts counter, I asked for an oil filter for a 'B', and was digging in my pocked for the part number i had scribbled down, before I got my hand out, the parts man had the filter on the desk... said it was a common filter used on many machines.. etc.
