Re: John Deere "E" Series Hydraulic Systems Failures Overheating, Stuck Valves, etc

I think you're right about that. At least, that's what JD kept saying the issue was (though from a few different accounts, it seems that was not a sufficient reason). I remember one user who suffered these problems said the JD dealer told him he was bumping his rear SCV levers, and that was causing the issue?

I'm pretty sure one of the other owners reporting these issues said it kept happening just using their rotary mower? And the transmission was so hot they couldn't put their boots on it?

I guess I've take a little hopeful comfort in knowing that my 5000E tractor has a different transmission and PTO package, which has been on many other larger JD utility tractors without issue.

Time will tell! :D

Yep, you are quoting things I remember from the thread I saw.

I hope you are right about your tractor.

Wouldn't it suck really bad to have that much money invested in a tractor that repeatedly melts the fuel tank!!!!

UGH, I know. I really do feel terrible for any owners who have to deal with this - especially when JD is being so stubborn about it.

Nothing worse than having a tractor that just goes back and forth to the dealer all the time.

Yeah, that's what amazed me when I read that thread. The fuel tank melted and JD tried to say it was something the operator did,,,, repeatedly....

Owning an E series with 2 SCV's, I really *can* see how JD was accusing the owner of bumping the rear SCV lever(s) next to the seat. I do it from time to time when turning to look back at my cutter over my right shoulder. However, it just makes the usual noise and goes back to neutral. Never been sticky. And I'm not a big guy (5'10" / 160).

That doesn't mean I think it's a valid excuse for fuel tanks melting, or the transmission getting so hot you can't even rest your feet on it, though!

Yes Deere has had problems with the hitch valve sticking and causing the hydraulic oil to over heat and get hot enough to melt the fuel tank.

Re: John Deere "E" Series Hydraulic Systems Failures Overheating, Stuck Valves, etc

What transmission problems are you talking about? I was not aware of this on the smaller machines. No issues with transmission om mine or hydraulics but I do all three point work only.

I'm with Kyle, I read an extensive thread about this problem. I think the OP had replaced his fuel tank two or three times and still no fix. It appeared it was hydraulic valve misadjustment or failure which caused the system to overload the relief valve and basically be in relief all the time. Some reported the floor area being so hot they couldn't stand to have their booted feet touching it.

When I was shopping last year I avoided the E series because of this problem and considerable transmission trouble.

Anxious to hear of your woes Couv

18 months ago my local JD dealer had three 5xxxE tractors in the shop with transmission failure. Not sure exactly what the specific problem was. The salesman steered me away from them saying JD would do a transmission change on those models and release them again and solve the current problem. Sorry I can't be more specific.

I think we'd hear more of this if it were a problem. People are much faster to log on to complain than they are to compliment.

I think most people on here don't have high hour tractors. A JD mechanic told me they were having lots of trans and hydraulic problems with 2 or 3 year old 5M's with 2000 plus hours. Haven't heard of any problems with them on here...yet.

Do E's and M's share trans components? Most 5 series farm tractors around here are M's and they are having major problems.
