Actually no. This land is in West Texas in dry land cotton country. Is too far from a major city to interest a developer. what is is happening here is farmers are leasing out to wind farms. Not many folks live in the country anymore in this area so the wind farms are looking good with over 4 dollar diesel making dry land cotton farming even tougher. The farmers in my area have been putting an effort forward to get about 50,000 acres committed to a wind farm. I hate the thought of those windmills on my place and in my opinion unless some gadget makes wind generated electricity more economical, this is a passing fad and when the wind company goes belly up we will be stuck with the windmills. don't think i can cut one of those suckers down with a torch.

I have been considering selling the place although it pains me to do so. It has some upkeep and will be 225 miles from where I live after I retire. I am nearly 60 and my kids have no interest in it so when I croak it will change hands to another family--we have been there since 1932--so the question is do I sell it or does my executor sell it. If the wind farm happens, I will probably hold on to the property and take the monthly payments assuming windmills get placed on my farm. My Mom and Dad would be aghast, but they would understand I think.

Paul. Interesting site. Wonder if the windmills will come in green and yellow??

Have not had time to really research the economics of the windmills. From a property owners standpoint, if the contract is right, I don't guess it matters. From a taxpayer's and utility customer's standpoint, there may be a chicken coming home to roast that needs a lot of feeding.

There are so many fans because every time we use their equipment, we have a feeling of pride as their equipment peforms so well. :)

1*Buying a tractor doesn't have to be based on rational thinking, I guess.
~~~~~~~~~~Lot of Aussie farmers seem to have the Green paint bug too. I am not sure how the reasoning goes, that because John Deere bought Chamberlain and kept it running for a couple of years, that green is the same as orange and so it is Australian to buy a Deere. Buying a tractor doesn't have to be based on rational thinking, I guess.
*At least not for JD Buyers
:D;)
"The green and yellow must be a lifestyle?!"
Absolutely. * Who can look at one of JD's product brochures without picturing themselves in the lush surroundings.
They do kind of crack me up though, pictures of guys out working in the yard in dress slacks and $100 shirts.
Almost hate to admit their marketing works so well...
My first tractor (2520) was delivered at 8:30 AM in April.
I got a phone call from a friend of a friend who had been driving by and saw it getting offloaded from the ramp truck in my yard. At 11:00AM the same day at work.
Just wanted to know if it was true and if he could come by and see it.
*I was kinda surprised how many people just wanted to see it. Not drive it, see it.
No one wanted to see my truck when I bought that.
*How odd since he could see all kinds of them at the dealers.
The LT 133 is the cheapest higher end JD, it was a stout little tractor. It does not compare to the lesser expensive LAs. The quality was better and it was not sold at Home Depot. The Ls and LAs are but not the LT and up tractors. Could you imagine and 318 at HD or a 455 diesel. That machine MOWS!!!!!!!!
My next door neighbor has a JD316
He bought new.
Just because a JD is sold at Home Depot does not make it a poor quality machine. .
They are a lesser machine.That's why they're sold at the BOX stores.
Same goes for CC and all the other Lables hanging out at the Big Box Stores.
There is just no way the entry level box store tractors measure up to the other tractors.
