"Consulting the Oracle" by John William Waterhouse, showing eight priestesses in a temple of prophecy
In Classical Antiquity, an oracle was a person or agency considered to be a source of wise counsel or prophetic opinion, predictions or precognition of the future, inspired by the gods. As such it is a form of divination.
The word is derived from the Latin verb ōrāre "to speak" and properly refers to the priest or priestess uttering the prediction. In extended use, oracle may also refer to the site of the oracle, and to the oracular utterances themselves, called khrēsmoi (χρησμοί) in Greek.
Oracles were thought to be portals through which the gods spoke directly to man. In this sense they were different from seers (manteis, μάντεις) who interpreted signs sent by the gods through bird signs, animal entrails, and other various methods.[1]
The most important oracles of Greek antiquity were Pythia, priestess to Apollo at Delphi, and the oracle of Dione and Zeus at Dodona in Epirus. Other temples of Apollo were located at Didyma on the coast of Asia Minor, at Corinth and Bassae in the Peloponnese, and at the islands of Delos and Aegina in the Aegean Sea. Only the Delphic Oracle was a female; all others were male.[2] The Sibylline Oracles are a collection of oracular utterances written in Greek hexameters ascribed to the Sibyls, prophetesses who uttered divine revelations in a frenzied state.

Changed to 5w -30 oil the other day. The old oil was pretty thick stuff. So far no problems but it has not been below freezing yet. Summers get pretty warm so I will probably switch back to 15w in late spring. I will keep you posted when it gets freezing again, its been in the upper 60's. Nice break for January.

Got down to 28 last night and this morning it started up and ran like normal. Hopefully it continues to work. Thanks to all for input.

Bad news. It did it again today when it was down to 25 last night. I am about out of ideas, short of spending a lot of money to have it fixed. I am going to buy a service manual, I figure I will need it anyhow, and see if there is something I am over looking. I know that nothing is broke because after the initial trouble it will work perfectly for the rest of the day and works fine when it is warm. Do these things have a high idle setting when they are cold that could be sticking? Any last thoughts before she goes in to the shop?

have you been adding a dewatering/lubing fuel conditioner to your tank and storage jugs / tanks?

This seems to suggest a sticking governor. "The injection pump meters fuel as determined by the governor".

The governor is apparently in the injection pump and not serviceable. It does appear to be lubricated by sump oil. The oil you are using should be fine. 25 degrees is not that cold in the grand scheme. I would agree with a fuel conditioner to add lubricity and remove moisture. If the problem persists, I would get an oil/fuel sample kit and send them to the lab. OilScan brand is only about 13 dollars per sample per kit, including lab work. Usually get a response in 4 or 5 days. I would also contact your dealer to see if there is anything they can do for you.

Would a block heater be a work-around, run for several hours to heat the block, IP, and intake? Nice to have anyway, and lots cheaper. If the pump/governor is functioning all right except when very cold, maybe...
