Impressive trick... tks

Watched a guy removing studs from an engine block that was being prepared to put in a steam cleaner.. and he heated up broken studs and stuck ones with a torch before holding a candle wax to it, melted the wax down around the threads and almost could turn them out with fingers.. but at least with a wrench or pliers. Was also impressive, like this technique shown here.

I was suggested this video the other day, maybe its worth a try, last resort.

Extract Broken bolts from deep hole NEW easy WAY - YouTube

Well that guy in the video seems to know what he is doing except for the last bit of the video were after welding the nut to the broken bolt and still could not get it to come out, he heated the bolt. He should have heated the metal around the bolt. You want the metal to expand away from the bolt. Heating the bolt will only cause it to expand more and be tighter in the threads.

I never watched the end of the video. The extraction from the block with the copper to protect the casing threads is a good thing and could be used here. Should it have been loctited, the heat will help. I would myself want to heat the steel rather than the aluminum, but I hear what you are saying. Corrosion can be a bugger. That old Murray spindle wasn't hardly worth his time, but a demo none the less. I came close to throwing my 3 NOS Murray replacement spindles in the recycle the other day, but thought maybe I'd end up making SOMETHING with them!
