Last month I bought a compact John Deere 770, and yesterday I bought a backhoe attachment for that model, I can see where it connect on the bottom, but can not determine how else to mount it and then set up and use. This is my first tractor to own. I just bought a operator manual for the tractor. Any and all help would be really great.

What make/model backhoe did you buy? Is it subframe mount or just mounts on the 3pt hitch? Did you install the "Power Beyond" kit or does it have a pto pump? A little more information might help us help you.

The backhoe is the same model, 70, the perfect match to the tractor, it attaches to the sub frame, to the lower notched. I bought it from the same family that I bought the tractor, but the children knew nothing of how to hook it up. It does not attach to the PTO, the hoses connect to the connector to the right of the driver [remote valves] that is all I know. I admit that I am a novice. This is the first tractor I have owned. What is the "power beyond" kit? The family has told me that the back hoe worked great the last time he used it. But it has been sitting around for about 5 years since his death. Welcome any and all help./forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I looked on the net to see if I could find a picture of the 70 BH and didn't. I can tell you how my 448 BH attaches. I have to first remove the 3pt hitch components including the top link. Then I back up to the hoe and the rockshaft engages the hooks on the top of the hoe and lifts the hoe to the top and there are two pins that hold the assembly (one on each side). The power beyond kit is just a tap into the hydraulics of the tractor and has a hose for the fluid to loop. After pinning the hoe and killing the tractor, I remove the loop hose and plug in the two lins from the hoe. Not sure if this helps, but I could possibly send you some photos later if that would help. Could you post photos of your assembly? Maybe a shot of the sub frame mount and the mating parts of the hoe.

The 7 backhoe is a bit different than the 448 in attachment. There should be a sticker on the hoe that outlines the procedure. If you don't have that, I'll try to describe here. If that fails, I can post some pics, scan some instructions or whatever you want. I have a 7 on my 790 which is the same tractor as a 770.

All of this assumes your tractor has the Power Beyond and tractor-side mounting brackets. If not, it will never mount.

First, remove the three point lower arms, lift links and top link. There is a locking bar that will keep your rockshaft arms in the up position but I'm sure you can live without it.

Back the tractor up over the hoe until you can hook up the hydraulics. Once hooked up, raise the hoe using combinations of stabilizers and boom so the lower mount is even with the tractor bracket (height) and the front of the subframe is tipped down somewhat. Back up to engage the rear lower mount in it's slots on the tractor.

Again using a combination of stabilizers and boom, lower the rear of the hoe. It will pivot in the rear mount causing the front to raise and engage the forward subframe mounts. They should self-latch (make sure they are unlatched beforehand). Once latched, raise the rear again and hook up the upper mount to the top link hole on the tractor.

That's it. On a good day I can do all of the above in under five minutes! Raise everything up and you're off to the races!

Let me know if you need anything more. I have manuals and such at home /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I did not see a sticker but I will look again, where would it be located? That sounds easy, too easy, the hoses seem short, so I can not see how they could attach. could you tell me where I can locate a manual? I just got my operator manual for the tractor in the mail today. Photos always help. I can take a photo of the backhoe, if I knew how to load them to this site. It has everything needed to run it , the family has told me that it was taken off and never reinstalled again because their father died. I will post the photo of when it was on the tractor.

Mike

Let me ask you a question, you said to move the tractor over the attachment close enough to connect the hyd hose. Let start there. My #7 backhoe attachment has two hose, what looks like a one foot hose with a male end and a two foot hose with a female end. Just above my PTO is a hose attachment . with the left side having a quick disconnect coupler, and to the right of the driver on the fender is another connector with two female ends. Where do I connect the hoses, which area above the PTO or the other connector?

Ok I was able to find a photo of the power beyond, I do have that unit, so now help me understand what the side mounting brackets are, the power beyond hose go to the unit with a lever on the right fender the one that has two female hose outlet. Is this the unit that you are speaking of?

The hose attachment above your PTO is the Power Beyond. With the engine off you can disconnect the jumper hose from one side of the connection. The connections will then be obvious to the backhoe as there will only be one pair each of male/female connectors. No way to hook it up wrong!

If you want a manual, try a John Deere dealer or their web site. I've also seen them on Ebay. I'll take mine to work tomorrow so I can scan you some images if you want.

Yes, that picture looks very familiar, it's just like mine except the tires. You've even got the ROPS extensions so you won't bump your head when your using the backhoe. I didn't use mine long before adding that option /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well, now you've got me stumped but it may be one of those things that's harder to describe than picture. I'm bad about those things myself.

My tractor has only the power beyond. There is just one jumper hose above the PTO that has a hard connection on the right side and a quick connect on the left. The hose loops down below the top link on the three point hitch.

If you've got more hoses than that, you may have an extra valve plumbed in through the power beyond. I've heard that's done from time-to-time. If that's the case, there may still be a pair of power beyond outlets on the additional valve for the backhoe, or the extra valve may unplug with quick connects. Have another look and let me know. I'll run down now and snap a pic of my tractor /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
