John Deere Quality Control Problems

I knew when I said that it was wrong!! Silly me! It is a 5045E!!
Yep, the 50 hour check list is on my bucket list!

Best of luck with yours. I do think that for that class tractor (power to weight ratio etc.) they are best in class and competitive with any other manufacturers product.

Guess I'll join the fray on this one. I had a JD4010 for 9 years. The driveline coupling between the engine and hydraulics flew apart; so, I went to JD for a replacement. Wanted modulated PTO startup (the slam-on is probably what caused the driveline to fail) and 3ph position control. The JD1025 had these, and I liked it initially.

Never had any warranty calls on the 4010. On the 1025, they started fairly soon. Here they are:

1. Heater hoses were loose. Initially, I thought it was hydraulic cylinder on steering was leaking because that was where it was dripping from. Luckily, the savvy service tech traced it to the heater hoses.
2. Throttle wouldn't hold. Tech came out and tightened it. Had to come out a 2nd time to put in a new washer kit for it. Two washers were left out. (These are a combo of flat and cupped ones. The cupped ones act like springs to hold the throttle in position.)
3. Tractor just stopped. This was a combination of fuel solenoid, bad description in operators manual re how to change the the fuel filter and having that blasted inline fuel filter.
4. Persistent oil leak in vicinity of the oil filter. Still not sure what cause of this is. Decided to go for something else. Trading it in.
5. Strap securing the air cleaner to the engine is missing.

So, I've elected to go for a 2025, which is a modern version of my 4010 with 3ph position control and faster hydraulics. I went with it over the nearly $3,000 less expensive Kubota B3201 that has all the bells and whistles that the 1025 has, too (that the 2025 doesn't have). Going after the B3201 would be a whole lot more hassle, and after reading some of this, I was wondering whether the chances of getting maybe a Kubota lemon are magnified. The B3201 appears a better machine at a whole lot less money. I just didn't want to jump through the hoops to get it (didn't have loader installed; kids had stolen reservoir lid; dealership is a good 25 miles farther away; would've had to wait for JD to figure out and to fix the 1025 oil leak problem; etc.)

I also think that some manufacturers (like JD) are going through what the US auto industry went through with pollution control stuff in the 70s. For instance, idle speed on the 1025 is 1650 rpm, and it's ROUGH. Supposedly for pollution. Idle speed on the 2025 is speced at 1400. One I tested was at 1300. Idle speed on the B2301 is 1000. If Kubota can figure it out, what's wrong with Yanmar/JD?

I'm sure many will go through figuring out that their new Tier 4 engines are using more fuel, just as VWs started to in 2009 when they had to add some fuel to start the regens. Well, VW have now figured it out. They completely redesigned their TDI engines for 2015. Fuel mileage is up 15%, probably pretty close to what it was pre regens.

Bought a new 5075E at the end of 2014. At 10 hours the wiring harness was replaced under warranty because of repeated blown fuses. At 20 hours the injector pump is being replaced under warranty. I call the color of this tractor green and lemon.
