back on topic:
here's what my thoughts are on the LA140 JD:
brought the first one back because the fuel tank leaked all over my driveway when I filled it.
Called HD, woman in department told me to bring my old one back and they would give me another new one. No questions asked, didnt check my receipt or anything.
The new one, seemed to have a smaller fuel tank, but at least it doesn't leak!
There was no quick coupler for the deck wash, so I kept the original off the one I brought in.
The belt fell off the mower after a few startups, but I put it back on w/o too much trouble.
It has plenty of power; 23 HP B& S. sAy what you will about B & S, but their parts are widely available and seem more inexpensive than Kohler...
seems to go a bit slow (used to my JD GT 225)
doesn't have the greatest traction (oredered weight bracket from JD), but my GT has wheel weights, so in fairness, I will try it with the weight bracket and suitcase weights off my CUT...
seat is comfy, as is soft-grip steering wheel
no adjustment on drag links (my GT does)
large rims and tires, rides very smoothe
a little loud maybe, but 23 HP, not sure what to expect. I have muffs anyway
controls are easy to reach, electric PTO is great
mower looks like PITA to put on /off compared to my GT
pulls a trailer and dethatcher pretty well, no complaints other than a little slipping on inclines, again, hoping weights will straighten that out
cargo-mount system is nice, though I have nothing that uses it
am considering a plow blade for it, but JD website says for "snow only" which prolly = chincy
deck lift is nice and convenient
overall: I'd say it's a "B" I like it for what it was intended: mowing and pulling a small trailer. I will leave the serious work to my GT and CUT.
