John Deere sold at Lowes & HD

I have had my L120 since 03, confirmed by the dealer this week when I had to get a new PTO switch for it. All I have done is the standard maintainence od oil and filters, battery, blades & belts. It is well worth what I paid for it. I also have a 9N with a bush hog for rougher terain and a Mahindra with FEL & BH. They all perform very well for the work that I bought them for.

am considering a plow blade for it, but JD website says for "snow only" which prolly = chincy

overall: I'd say it's a "B" I like it for what it was intended: mowing and pulling a small trailer. I will leave the serious work to my GT and CUT.

A plow would likely ruin the small transaxle in short order. Good decision leaving that task to the GT.

Did you know that most anything with a Honda engine on it in a box store is actually a Chineese engines with a Honda sticker...?

Not sure what you are saying because Honda DOES have joint ventures with chinese factorys.

Just as USA companies have things built to their specs in China (You know, toys with lead paint), so do companies from most other countries. Along with having things made for them by suppliers in China, Honda also has some of their own manufacturing plants in China, just as they do in the USA. No longer is a Chevy or Ford all USA any more than Honda or Toyota are all Japan.

A 4.0 V6 Toyota Tacoma built in the USA actually has more American parts content than a USA built Ford Ranger 4.0 V6. It's hard to tell exactly where anything comes from anymore just by going on brand name alone.

i have had a L100 for quite a few years now. for what it is i have been very pleased. we have maintained 3 acres with it. tow a garden cart, mow, sometimes pretty tall field grass, moved firewood around with it. for the money it has been a great bargain. i bought it because at the tiime we needed a larger mower. had owned a lowes mtd prior to the L100. it was junk compared to the deere. i liked that the deere used a heavier frome and had more grease points. also, repairs when needed are as easy as taking to the deere dealer. they seem to have a much faster tunraround than any of the off brand repair shops. we have had no repairs needed for it other than routine maintenance. i think it was good of deere to get in this market as it gives people who otherwise wouldn't be buying a deere a starting point with the brand. if a homeowner buys one of these from a box store and the dealer treats the customer well when it comes in for maintenance, the first place they will look will be the deere dealer if they move or buy another property requiring a tractor.
good luck,

Not everyone lives near a JD Dealer.
Most everyone lives near a box store.
I have 2 box stores with JDs within 20 minutes, my nearest JD Dealer is almost 60.
Once you get the Deere, you go out of your way to visit them.
Then you make the time later if you are going to upgrade, because the box stores don't have an upgrade path.

my brother brought a jd from a box store. . . After 3 hours of use had oil leaking out from the bottom. It took a full month & several calls to jd asking what he had to do to get them to take it back before the "local" jd dealer fixed it. He knew better than to give the dealer a hard time since he was at his mercy. It killed him because the dealer stored everything outside & he's very careful about storin his prized possessions.

there are many people who have never been to a tractor dealer. sad but true. many of these people may be from more urban backgrounds and don't know what a dealership has to offer. at the same time they have been by a box store and seen the that they sell lawn mowers. when it is time to buy they go where they know. i have yet to pass the jd dealer and see a line of lawn tractors parked out by the street. they may be there but if they are they are behind the ag tractors where you can't see them.
good luck,
