2009 john deere x-749
I am putting a 45 loader on a 2009 john deere x749 . I put in the pressure relief valve and keep reading on " shim " kits. Where can these be bought and where do they go? My new valve can be taken apart into two pieces and I would guess the shimms would go on top of the plunger there. I have a guage that I can put in any one of the hose ports in the front and get readings. I just wanted to know if I was on the right track and where I can get these shimms. Or what pressure would be the max while still being in the safety zone. Or should I not even do this at all. I would welcome any and all advice. Thanks

:welcome: to the forum.
Do you have the tech manual?

The shim is part no. M810025

And should be able to get at your Deere dealer parts.

First off, the new valve that came with your loader is not the one you shim to increase the lifting capacity.

Secondly, the shimming to increase the charge pump pressure is more typically done for the 40 loader on older machines; it's a bit underpowered with its 1.5" boom cylinders. The boom cylinders on the 45 were increased to 1.75" to improve that situation. With the 45, if you feel you need more lifting power, you need to ask whether you really ought to be moving to a larger tractor. You can bump up the pressure all you want, or even go to bigger cylinders, but that doesn't mean it's safe to lift that much.

Tim I will take your advice and keep it stock. I already have the issue that I am not suppose to have a loader on this unit. I thought while I was putting in the valve I would shim it at the same time. I put the loader on last night and used it for the first time and it works great. I could pick up a load of wet sand no problem and with good speed. All is well here and thank you for the great advice.

First of all Welcome to the forum, nice to see another x749 owner.

TimS does make a good point about the increase in forces with the larger cylinders on the boom. The older design with 1.5" cylinders could develop 1650lbs of force on each rod end. The larger 1.75" cylinders will develop 2250lbs of force on each rod end. Thats a 1200lb increase in forces with the two cylinders assuming about 940 psi hydraulics pressure. Don't know how that will affect your actual lifting abilities at the pins but you should be able to lift 350 to 400 lbs with the standard arrangement.

Will be interested in following your thread on this.

G-man, you did install the new valve, right? Even though that's not the one you shim, you need it - running the stock valve with the loader you'll blow the transaxle in short order.

Can you elaborate on this more? I would like to no more about this issue. TIA:)

Yes I did install the valve without any kind of shim before I ever used the loader. It works great and all is well.
