July Fourth Weekend, What Is Your Pleasure ?

So, what are your plans for the fourth of July weekend? Do most of you TBNers travel, have something regular that you do on a yearly basis, or do you just kick back and see where life will take you for the holiday weekend?

For the past 4 years we have always hosted a open house party. We open our home to family and friends, everyone brings a covered dish and beverage and we supply fresh grilled burgers, hot dogs, and all the rest of the trimmings. There is always way too much food but no one ever complains on a holiday. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif We fish in our stocked pond, play a little bocce, volleyball, and other yard games and generally have a great time socializing. Then just before dark we go around the corner to our neighbors place. They always do an annual fireworks display shortly after dark. This year it's happening here on the 3rd (Saturday) and we are looking forward to yet another good party mood. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Unfortunately, I'll be working Saturday and Sunday...

Leaving Thursday for my parents, my dad's birthday is on the third. Later that day we are heading on up to our property in NY on Seneca Lake, I can't wait! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Last year I flew down to Albuquerque to spend a long weekend with my in-Laws and the lovely Mrs_Bob. We went up to the Wine Festival in Santa Fe and then came back down to the in-Laws for fireworks. This year, the lovely Mrs_Bob is in Albuquerque, but I am home working on pool, several in home projects, and the yard. I was going to go down there this weekend but the need for repairs to a retaining wall got in the way. So the 4th will be spent alone, or perhaps with some friends, but still alone. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

July 4th weekend, 2002....devoted to building forms for footings to be used for new addition on house (160 feet of them) and having redi-mix concrete delivered for footings.

July 4th weekend, 2003....devoted to building new 10X16 deck for addition and installing new outdoor security lighting.

July 4th weekend, 2004...to be devoted to tearing off two layers of old shingles on half of original house roof, and installing 10 squares of new shingles, on a VERY steep slope.

But hey, the projects were my idea and I was doing what I wanted to do when I did them.

We g back and forth between staying home and traveling. This year we will be in the Bay Area overnite so we can catch an early flight on the 5th.

Here in El Dorado Cnty, Calif, fireworks are illegal. The fire danger is too high to have that kinda stuff around here.

If you can't find anything better to do and can bear the crowds - here's a good option for you. I have'nt got to go in a while, as we're usually projecting or vacationing over the 4th, but I'm planning to go this year.

My Fourth of July weekend is going to be really special for me this year. My son is coming home from Mexico and my daughter will be home taking a break from her Bar Exam preparations. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm really looking forward to seeing each of them and even more so to seeing them together. The last time that happened was Christmas. It'll get a bit easier when he's back in the US permanently and when she get through this and gets a job in the fall when the Bar Exam results are returned. For now, though, I am really looking forward to this coming weekend. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Speaking of reunions

I'll be attending my 20th Class Union on the 3rd. Will be the first time we have gotten together since 84. Ought to be interesting

Down side, I have to work on the 4th & 5th. Unfortunately producing electricity is a 24/7 kinf of thing
