Jump start tractor with truck?

I have no idea how you could get killed connecting a cable to the starter, unless the contacts in the starter solenoid were welded shut. I'm guessing what you are thinking of is shorting the solenoid to the battery cable on the starter to start the tractor and the tractor was in gear.

After a search there is no consensus as to the correct way, other than always make the last ground connection away from the battery.
Learned the way I do it from my Dad (auto mechanic for 20 years and then full time farmer) and I'm sure he learned it from his Dad who
was also a mechanic and also had the John Deere dealership. And yes, I've seen both of them jump across the solenoid to start a tractor
from the ground, after making sure the tractor was in neutral. I don't do that.
We had a copper strap attached to the battery cable at the tractor starter on a couple of tractors to making jumping easier when it was really cold
and livestock had to be fed. Good thing we didn't know the gas pickup wouldn't be able to jump the tractor!
Apparently they can stick closed if you wear the battery down too far.
I have had that happen, just once. After wearing the battery in my F150 down I hooked it up to a friend's vehicle and when I made the last connection (battery to battery) the engine started turning over. I was lucky that the truck was in neutral, although I don't know if boosting had enough juice to actually move the truck, and without the key turned on it still wouldn't have started.

I also once boosted a VW Rabbit with a 14 gauge extension cord, but necessity dictated it and that was an exercise in patience.

Yes low battery voltage when attempting to start engine can cause contacts inside starter solenoid to stick together causing starter to stay engaged after ign switch is returned to off position.

My tractor (TYM 554) won稚 start and I知 suspecting a dead battery. Can I jump start it with my truck (Ram 1500)? I don稚 want to cause any damage to either vehicle.

DON'T DO IT!
Hair will grow under the batteries, and your tires will go flat.

Older tractors , older equipment and older vehicles are sometimes positive ground . Never assume that chassis is always negative .

I always make the last connection at the source for jumping the vehicle that is dead and do that at the negative or ground. Also I don't just clamp it on, I touch it to the ground first to see if all is ok everything connected to the right place, etc.

Accidentally ran the truck battery down today... Kubota to the rescue! Does this meet approval of the jump start experts on here?
