Has anyone succeeded in stopping the stuff, or at least getting rid of a substantial portion of it?

There are a couple of threads on the subject, but they don't really say if anyone has been successful at stopping it. I know about sending the stuff back in the prepaid 'lopes. While that's entertaining and a good pay back, I just want to kill it.

Anyone?

My bad, next time I'll read a little slower.

Uuuh, Kendall, look at his post again. It sure appears to me that SnowRidge is talking about snail mail instead of e-mail.:D And other than sending it back in the prepaid envelopes, as he mentioned (and I'm not even sure that works sometimes), I don't know how you'd stop it. I only got 4 of those today.

I LIKE junk mail!
It lets me know the mailman has gone by when I find something in the box;)
I get suspicious when I get nothing and it seems on the rare occassions when I get nothing the next day is heavy....hmmmm.

Couldn't stop it completely, but sure reduced it by not opening it and writing
RETURN TO SENDER on it and putting it back in the mailbox. Might be worth
a try for you. Takes a little time for it to slow or even stop.
Good Luck

Mailman doesn't call it "junk mail".

He calls it "job security".

I write "Remove me from your list" on the application and put everything back in the postage paid envelope and send it off. When I say everything, I mean even the original envelope! I don't know if they actually do it or not, but I seem to get a lot less than I used to.

Thanks, I may try that.

There's also a method to opt out of certain types of junk mail.
Check out this link.
It covers the prescreened junk mail. Just don't complain you don't get any mail after you opt out.

On the prepaid envelopes included in alot of junk mail, the sender pays by weight. The more weight the more it costs them. So for example if you put in a piece of paper that said not interested and also filled the rest of the envolope with sand you might see less mail from that business. Just so you know, I work for the post office and this will work after time.

I work for the post office

I was a clerk in the Post Office in Dallas when first class letter postage went from 4 cents to 5 cents, so that tells you how long ago it was.:D And at one time, one of my jobs was working what we called "penalty" mail back then, which is the postage paid envelopes you are referring to. I noticed you called them "prepaid" and surely that can't be right; i.e., they haven't paid postage in advance on those envelopes, but have to pay the postage only if or when the envelope is returned to them. And when postage was 4 and 5 cents, those envelopes cost them an extra 2 cents. I would guess (though perhaps erroneously) that they still have to pay some extra for the extra handling. And of course, as you said, additional weight can certainly make the postage amount increase. I never put any sand in one, but I have put all their literature that I could pack into the envelope in it to return it.:D

Between Good Sams and the NRA I get way too much junk mail.. There is no way either of those organizations can NOT spend more money than I pay in dues sending me 'offers'..

The NRA called the other night and asked for a $150 donation.. then dropped to $100 then $75, then $25 before she got the hint (me hanging up) that I wasnt interested.. I actually told her I needed to think about it and I would donate online if i decided too.. I should have told her to take some of the money they spend on junk mail and apply that to their cause..

These are the only people who care enough to send me anything.

If they stop......
