I'm sure they're not the best saws out there, but I have two of them (both Craftsman branded, same thing just different options like chain break and such) and they run very well.

Poulan/Craftsman saws from the 80s are very good saws.

The Poulan Pro/Craftsman chainsaws you find today for under $150 new are gonna be the smaller ones (34cc usually) and with no vibration protection. Even those saws work OK for the occasional user who does not operate it for more than 15-30min at a time, and who actually maintains it. Note that these cheap saws use Walbro or Zama carbs, just like the big boys. They do tend to have plastic pinion gears in the oil pump, which wear out easily.

PP260 is a good saw for what it is. Plastic clamshell saw. Just dont get a whole lot wrapped up into one. I sell them for 50-75 ready to cut. Great little trim saws though with spring av. IMO better built and in the cut then the small homeowner saws sold by stihl for 3-5 times the cost.

This saw is before the strato crap they added later. I prefer this little saw to them.

Matter fact have a $50 one on the shelf now.

Couldnt pass up a 02 2171. Bought new Dec 05. Came with all the paperwork and receipts when bought new.

Has lost a battle with a tree or limb at one time another. All checked out but someone bought wrong new bar for it.

Tested out good with 24" buried in dry ash.

Looks like a nice shop you have. I was always reluctant to get so many magnetic nut & bolt holder cups.

Afraid they become permanent storage for "extra" nuts and bolts :embarrassed:

Oh well, maybe I will get few more...

Cheers :D

I have 3 benches with them. #1 shown is main work bench so it has a few more.
I try and keep them broke down into sections when tearing saws apart.

Seen a poulan 330 54cc with the 22" 3/8 for sale. Sticker shows 2007. While I was out I found a JD bar cover to put on the shop wall too.
I was told poulan ran. It did. But needed a air filter cover, air filter base being the stud was broke off in base and drywall screw was used to hold cover onto base, both right side lower AV's were ripped apart, fuel line needed replaced. The issue with the recoil was the rusted and broken recoil spring. Thank goodness I still had all those parts still.

Went ahead and pulled the tube out of muffler and opened up the inside cage too.

Some before and after pics. I put a 20" to test with.

Very nice work. My favorite saw is still my Homelite Super EZ AO. Bought it new in late 70s and still runs like a dream. Getting harder to find those funky friction clutches.

I've never seen a pull start spring do that... pretty clean saw for that much rust in the spring! Must have been someone's winter truck saw for a while? don't have those issues here out of the rust belt...

I bought a Poulan about 4-5 years ago for a truck saw, instead of having my new 545 Husky bounce around in the bed and set outside in the rain. Somehow over time I forgot that I had the green one and lost track of it for a year and a half. A few weeks ago I found it, luckily with an empty gas tank. I dumped fuel in and it started right up, so it's now taken the place of my Husky in the back of the truck again.

You are dead on about the vibration though.

Yikes! I am surprised it ran long enough to get that plugged. If it is the carb, then there is the reason, punctured or not put on right and the saw was ingesting sawdust.

Just fines in the carb. Just typical stihl HD filters doing a so so job and owner running a dull chain.

I think it gets by the base matting surface a tad. This is one of the ones that didnt come with the rubber gasket built into the base itself.

Think I have a pic from 2016 here somewhere.

Testing out one of those 660 clones.

I sprayed mix in the cylinder while plug was pulled to lube things up before pulling over. Just dont like the idea of dry on dry.

Just tested and tuned before and during cuts.

I did pull and put my own sparkplug in it.

Cuts as should and works as should. Was actually impressed with it for stock saw. Even got her set fat for now.

Cant tell any difference in it and the last used stihl 660 I sold in the cuts.

I even liked that stock chain they sent with it out of the box.

Sugi copied bar.

People are ignorant. well saw owners are it seems like.

I have an 028 and an 075 that are around 40 years young now and both run like the day I bought them. All it takes is common sense and a bit of maintenance. Have an Ms as well but like the older vintage ones better.

Stupid people flog them and you get to fix them. What a racket.

I wish I had a business fixing them. I thought of that being a retirement job. I am not of xyz123’s caliber of a repairman by any means but it would be fun trying.
