Just arrived and hour meter is broken

Well, I got my M105s a few hours ago. Been playing with it and besides a loose steering wheel and worn FL tire it looks good. I glanced down at the hours and guess what. It hasn't moved!!

This thing could have 10k hours on it! I bought it from a kubota dealership out of state who explicity told me via voice, email, and ad that is had 1555hrs. Well, 2 hours later it still does.


Whats my recourse? He's not answering his cell phone at the moment.

Disconnecting that is like rolling back an old timey speedometer and selling the car. Not cool.

The tach is broken. You can see the 1/10 hour mark bouncing as the gear tries to catch, but it just jumps a tiny bit but won't roll over.

if your dealer is not responding, then contact central K & log your contacts
is tach electric or mechanical? prob electric. maybe remove positive battery terminal & reboot? good luck

It's mechanical. Dealer is in Mississippi.

I thought there was a law that protects you against that? I know in Canada here is some law about how you can't tamper with the hours or mileage.

Theres lemon laws and false advertising laws the consumer affairs dept handles. They have the the power of court behind them. I'm going to see what the place says Monday, then start talking to the agencies/lawyer in their area. $30k is not a small sum to be duped out of.

Buyer beware is about the only law in most states for used agricultural equipment. Sounds like he, The seller tampered with the hour meter which broke it to register the hours he told you.

Most state take the position it is your responsibility as the buyer of used agricultural equipment to insure what you are buying is what the seller says it is.

He could have looked at it at the dealership and still not been able to see that the hour meter was inoperable unless he ran it long enough to test the meter at the dealership. But realistically, who does that?

How does your meter operate?
Is it based on PTO speed? (engine has to run at certain speed to count hours)
Is it based on time when engine is just idling?

The tractor was advertised as a 1500 hour tractor. It was bought as a 1500 hour tractor. And a 1500 hour tractor should be what he got.

In todays world when it comes to used agricultural equipment it is, let the buyer beware. Such sales are usually, as is no warranty sales.

We don’t know if the dealer advertised the tractor had 1500 or what ever hours. The dealer probably said the hour meter on the tractor shows 1500 hours.

Mississippi? I'm almost positive you don't have much recourse. Maybe can get him to fork back a bit, but unless things have changed in past few years, no lemon law applies to a tractor. Only on road vehicles

From what I see they were made 2005 to 2007. For $30,000 I would have wanted to look it over first carefully. Maybe talk with a lawyer if you know one, probably not much you can do at this point.
I saw an ad for a Bobcat skid steer on Craigslist at a good price. Looking at it in person they had used it moving pallets of salt so lots of corrosion and couldn't find service records. Oil was black, dirty filters.
I moved on...
If the Kubota runs well otherwise and hour meter DID work...would you be happy?
There's a "cooling off rule": "As explained by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the federal cooling-off rules gives the consumer three days to cancel certain sales for a full refund."
